Does anyone have experience with a Smart Grill IFIC thermometer? My son got me a 6 channel setup for Christmas, but I haven't used it yet. After reading the review on Fireboard (before Christmas), I was planning on buying one.
I don't want to diss my son, but I don't want to find out the Smart Grill is a POS, and unable to return it, after using it.
I'm new here, and appreciate any help available, thanks!!
We get a lot of these kinds of requests here. Does the so-and-so thermo device work as well as the Fireboard? I own a whole draw full of thermo devices all of which work fairly well for what they are. But I can say without any doubt in my mind that the Fireboard is THE most versatile and complete package you would ever want in a thermo device AND controller. Coupled with a fan, you can turn any grill, kettle or even a large stick burner into a true thermo controlled device akin to the set and forget pellet grills.
For my money I'd return the gift and buy a Fireboard. Get the kid a 6 pack of beer to easy the pain !!!
First, welcome to the Pit. I will leave it to others to discuss the Smart Grill with you since I only have experience with the Fireboard. Using one right now to watch pork butts in my Yoder. You are correct though in your evaluation of the Fireboard as a great remote thermometer.

If not cooking outdoors, I am cooking on the stovetop with my 14" carbon steel wok, 12" CI skillet, or in the oven with my two Lodge CI pizza pans, or two dutch ovens. I've also got a nifty Lodge carbon steel grill pan that rocks for veggies outdoors.
