Problem with my new iGrill^2 thermometer

So today I'm doing a separated point and flat, and this is my first real chance to use the new iGrill^2 I won a few weeks ago (thanks DWCowles ).

So it's got 4 probes, and they have slide-on color-coded sleeves. Here is what they look like:

So, I like it, I'm happy, I was looking at the Fireboard, but decided since I won this, I'd wait a while and try it out see how it goes. It seems to be working pretty well, the Bluetooth hooked right up and worked easily, but I've got a discrepancy on my probes...

So, I decided I wanted to try out all 4 of them and tried to come up with an intuitive system I could keep straight when checking it. So, I put them in the point first - blue and green in the thick and thin ends, respectively. Then the yellow and red in the flat, same system.

But... when monitoring them, they get crossed somehow. It's weird... Here's some pics -

So, see the problem? The green probe is displayed properly in the pull-down menu on the phone, but when I go into the app, it reverses the green and yellow slots? What in the world?

    What can I do?

Oh, and that is the thin part of the point that is so much hotter than everything else. I don't know why, I've tried repositioning the probe, but it read so high from the get-go, I'm actually wondering if that probe may be bad. I guess I can try placing it next to one of the others and see if it changes. Maybe I'll go try that.

I think you’re right on, first thing to try is switching them around and see if the problem follows that probe. I recently contacted Weber for a couple of iGrill2 issues and here’s what they had me do: turn everything off, unpair the devices, remove the batteries from the iGrill2. Apparently there’s a small reset button in there where the batteries go, but I didn’t do that step, didn’t need to. But if you see it, might as well reset. They also had me delete and reinstall the app, which fixed my other issue. FWIW I ping them on Facebook and they respond pretty quickly. Good luck!

Hope you get the problem solved. I will hate that I gave away something that didn’t work correctly.

Nah, it works, just got some bugs I need to iron out. I'm very thankful for it, believe me!

Best of luck, bet it's summat simple...
Don't have such a device, so no wisdom to offer from here, apu.

Maybe some interference caused by red high heels.

So I just pulled the meat from the smoker, wrapped it tightly in some foil with a little beef broth and have it in the oven at 170ish. I'll give it an hour or so and see how it goes.

So... for the thermometer, I just tried each probe individually in some hot water, as my sous vide is going at 190F at the moment. Each probe measured properly up to 188-189F, so it seems they work fine.

I did notice that there is an order for the probes, apparently... red, yellow, green, blue, from left to right. Crap, I forgot to try plugging them in in another order. Oh well, it seems the probes read fine, I think my stupidly trimmed brisket was the problem, with meat temps all over the places because of the varying thickness. I don't know how it's going to turn out, but we'll see.

Still a little bit of a learning curve on the thermometer, but it looks like it will be pretty nice and handy.

        And thanks again DWCowles !

After I use a probe twice the color coded collar just stays grey no matter how I scrub it. It came with replacement collars but I’m not changing those things that often. In the old (pre August 2017) version of the app you could rename the probes each cook. We lost that functionality with the Weber total redesign but I know many customers have requested it. I still suspect they’ll add that capability in a future update, then the color coding isn’t significant. You should be able to mark any probe as "ambient" for now. Good luck with it!

Yes, I noticed when I cleaned them that the colored collars are already kinda gray, even after scrubbing.

A little wrap of foil might help you keep the color up on those collars. That's what I do on my Morpilot, which is a sorta similar device.
