I am rather skeptical with tech kickstarters, but this one looks more realistic than the Meater. Its not a whole lot different than the IGrill, except the IGrill has a display instead of a ball. The app even looks basically the same. Nothing new here, just a repackaged existing product.

The probes seem to be the biggest difference. Cable covered in rubber and a ambient temp sensor near the handle and a meat sensor in the tip.

> Weber Genesis EP-330
> Grilla Grills Original Grilla (OG) pellet smoker with Alpha/Connect
> Pit Barrel Cooker (gone to a new home)
> WeberQ 2000 (on "loan" to a relative (I'll never see it again))
> Old Smokey Electric (for chickens mostly - when it's too nasty out
to fiddle with a more capable cooker)
> Luhr Jensen Little Chief Electric - Top Loader circa 1990 (smoked fish & jerky)
> Thermoworks Smoke
> 3 Thermoworks Chef Alarms
> Thermoworks Thermapen One
> Thermoworks Thermapen Classic
> Thermoworks Thermopop
> Thermoworks IR-GUN-S
> Anova sous vide circulator
> Searzall torch
> BBQ Guru Rib Ring
> WÜSTHOF, Dalstrong, and Buck knives
> Paprika App on Mac and iOS
I think this one is more likely to be successful than the Meater. I'm still not convinced that wireless electronics and batteries will survive at the whole possible range of BBQ temps ... much less get a usable signal out through a closed metal cooker to the sender unit.

The probes use thermocouple technology. That all by itself could make the Loki worth looking at. I'm not backing another thermometer on KickStarter though after the Meater fiasco.
I think the pricepoint is sketchy. $139 for a Loki with 4 thermocouple probes seems too cheap. Thermoworks charges around $50 each of their thermocouple probes.
