What moisture meter do you recommend for wood?

Any tips when using them?

Somewhere I read that Harbor Freight makes a decent inexpensive unit. No personal experience though.

It works well, and based on other info seems pretty accurate. It is a little fussy about how well the probes are inserted; needs to be straight so both have equal contact, and the deeper into the wood grain the better.

I own three different meters from cheap too expensive ...

This one was cheap when I bought it, but the price has gone up considerably

Wasn't happy with the consistency of readings I was getting from that one, so I spent about $100 on this one

And bottom line, it was no better than the first one.

So I found the Goldilocks version, same one recommended by Meathead. This is the best one I've owned. Consistent readings that I can trust.
