    PSA on probes

Last week I used my Fireboard for a cook. The ambient probe was way off. I unplugged it from the Fireboard and plugged it in again. Still way off. I think it was 2017 when I bought the Fireboard, so I thought that was a pretty good lifespan for a probe. I threw it out and ordered another ambient probe. I also ordered another meat probe while I was at it 'cause I thought I should have one in reserve.

Today I started another cook and used a meat probe for ambient temps. It was way off again. Uh oh - maybe the probe I trashed wasn't bad. I move the meat probe to one of the meat ports, and it seems to be working correctly. That means that it's the Fireboard unit that is faulty, and the old probe is no longer recoverable.

So if ya have a probe go bad, check it in another port to make sure it is the probe that is bad.

I have already emailed Fireboard, and I have received their standard reply that they have received my quiry as to the next step.

I had a fireboard K probe go bad, threw it out then discovered on another one the wires had just come loose. Of course the trash had come by the time I figured it out. Life lesson learned for sure

Lots of reports I've heard lately that it's tough or next to impossible to get a response out of them. Maybe it's the squeakiest wheels, but that's disappointing.

I have the Fireboard 2 with a bad probe port. But the good thing about the 2 is that you can use any port to drive the fan, or as a meat or ambient probe. I think repair on a 2 is about $70. Not sure about earlier versions.

Thanks. Where can I find the instructions to change drive ports? I didn't see it on the Firboard site.

FB2 Drive does not require a fan control cable; fan plugs directly into the Fireboard. From the app, go to Drive view. At the top there is a Control Channel setting. Adjust that to the channel you have the fan plugged in. I think you can now even use a Pulse (ambient temp) to drive the fan. Older FBX11 version uses a cable.
