My Combustion Probe Has a Mind of Its Own

So I’m getting ready for my cook tonight. The probe is still on the counter next the iPad so it can connect. Firmware is up to date. I restarted a few times.

Chris Young I sent an email to y’all with actual video and the warning message. Thoughts, anyone?

All charged up? I find it best to recharge probe and display immediately prior ro use.

yakima yes! Fresh charge. After my display meltdown (literally). I plan my use and do a fresh charge every time now.

Those ambient temperatures are very similar in my section of Hell. 🙂
Seriously, when I had an issue with one of my thermostats they had me leave it out to fully discharge. Once discharged they had me charge it again and install the firmware again. That corrected my issue. Of course I would wait for support’s advice before trying this. Good luck.

I had to do a similar process a while ago. Discharge fully, then charge and check firmware for an update. Annoying a heck, but it worked.

Didn’t work for me! Temps showed as high as 655*F!! I did all the troubleshooting steps they said to do, too. This was their latest response:

    Hi Sheila,

Thanks for getting back to us—and I really appreciate you walking through all those troubleshooting steps so thoroughly.

Based on what you’ve shared and the behavior you're seeing, it looks like the ambient sensor in your probe has failed. Unfortunately, that’s not something that can be fixed with resets or cleaning.

We can definitely help you move forward. Here are the options:

    Option 1:
We can send you a free 1st-generation replacement if you'd like to stick with the original setup.

    Option 2:
You can upgrade to a 2nd-generation thermometer for $70—the Gen 2 model offers better durability, improved sensor placement, and stronger overall performance.

    Option 3:
If you’re thinking about refreshing more of your setup, we can offer you a 30% discount toward a full new bundle.

Let me know which option sounds best, and we’ll get things rolling!

    Best,
    Heiz

I might also add that they are VERY responsive and quick!

I am so fed up with probes and wires and sensors and connectivity.........I am going back to the basics. My Thermapen is still in my pocket at the smoker, but that is it. I almost never use my wired thermos anymore. Granted, I have enough experience with all of my rigs to get away with it. (Dare I call myself a Pitmaster? Nah, I am good.)
