I bought a Combustion probe on sale and it turned out to be just before the recent upgrade. Haven't used it yet. I bought it exclusively for rotisserie, or such was my thought. I have a rotisserie on my big Summit gasser, but have always wanted to rotisserize over a charcoal fire. So that means I'd have to buy a rotisserie get-up for my 22" kettle or jerry-rig one for my WSCGS.
One non-essential purchase leads to another in my house. Must start living the simpler life. But maybe not just yet and definitely not for BBQ toys.
I am a gadget junkie, a sucker for something that claims to make it easier or better. I remember when food processors became popular the challenge as to whether it really saved time. The argument was if you only needed a to chop an onion whatever time you saved with the food processor would be lost cleaning the food processor. Gadgets still remain a temptation and sometime a lot of time is lost trying to find it.
Then there's the classic move of not finding it, concluding you don't actually own it, buying a new one, and then finding the old one. Ask me how I know
We have a food processor, that I've threatened to get rid of more than once over the past 35 years of marriage (35 next month anyway). I've seen it used maybe twice by SWMBO, who brought it into the marriage with her. I've used it more than her, but like the Ninja blender about as good for the stuff I used it for (sauces, chimichurri).
Technology was first thought to make our lives much easier. Now we can tract, analyze, update, control, record, review almost anything in multiple ways on multiple devices that are also updated with improvements that we didn't know we needed. Thank goodness for my young grandchildren who can show me how to do and use everything that I must have. BTW how do I turn off that blinking light on my VCR and 8 track player?
As a note, my son (9 handicap) wants to buy sensors that fit into the top of the grip of each golf club that supposedly track how each club was used, distance, direction, speed, course landing location on his local course etc.to an app for his review later. Really?
I need to go now. My smart refrigerator just texted me on my phone that I am out of milk. Walmart then confirmed that my milk will be delivered shortly by their drone. VISA had already approved the charge. Wait...What?
I have a Thermapen, a DOT probe and now the Smoke X (I didn't want an app). The reason I got the Smoke X was because I tend to be a dingbat and get distracted easily. The Smoke X has an alarm, and a remote receiver, so I'll hear it when it goes off. I used it to see how accurate my OG's RTD is. I also used it to monitor my freezer when the electricity was cut the other day.
I use my DOT when I am using my oven.
The Smoke X is on sale for $119.40 (except the pink one, which is regular price of $199.00.)
The Smoke 2 channel is on sale for $49.50 (half off.)
