Out of curiosity, is anyone who has a Fireboard Drive unit using probes from another company. Specifically, I'm looking at Fireboard probes (ordering some reels to try on their site) and was curious if they are any better, worse or the same.

I would stick with FB probes. Others may or may not work. Or not work correctly.
Personally when it comes to electronics like this I prefer not to mix and match.

I love the FB probes, but let's face it, they're expensive in a set. Like seriously so.
I have bought multiple sets of Thermopro probes for my Thermopro TP25, and they work great with both of my Fireboards. The problem is, they're not very long. Like every other probe out there, they are only about 3 feet long, which is a pain when you're running a big smoker. But they're cheap, $25 for a set of 4, or thereabouts.
I AM planning on buying some more FB probes, as I love the thin competition probes and the longer wires. So I have some of each - I've burned up a bunch of probes doing testing and such, killed a few with temps over 600, etc. So I'm down to 2 comp probes, one of which is the 1", which I don't find particularly useful.
That's my experience. Love FB probes. I'd buy them more if they'd run them on sale more - but they also know they don't have to, so... yeah.

Yeah, they definitely get ya on the probe cost and they do not seem as "pro" as the Thermoworks Pro-Series, which are on-sale right now.

realdocBBQ. I really like the FireBoard 1" competition probe for chicken, sits nicely in thighs and breasts, I also think it would work well in fish although haven't tried that. I have FireBoard competition probes on my Christmas list as they are pricey.

My problem with the 1" is that it doesn't go deep enough to stay in place as things are moved around, or even when opening and closing the door on a smoker and the wire shifts around. I like the longer shaft of the longer comp probes.

Large Big Green Egg, Weber Performer Deluxe, Weber Smokey Joe Silver, Fireboard Drive, 3 DigiQs, lots of Thermapens, and too much other stuff to mention.
BBQ Guru probes work, I tested them in boiling/ice water. I don’t remember the results, just that they weren’t exact, but close enough. Less than 5°.
Most probes vary anyhow. When I did my test, the Fireboard probe was off by a degree or two from channel to channel. I have it written down somewhere, with photos. I’ll try to find them.

Same experience here. I like them for small cuts (chicken thighs & burgers) but they do move around a bit much.Originally posted by DogFaced PonySoldier View PostMy problem with the 1" is that it doesn't go deep enough to stay in place as things are moved around, or even when opening and closing the door on a smoker and the wire shifts around.
