Thermapen MK4 crapped out on me

I got an error code on my Thermapen MK4, which has served me for years, and changed the battery. Now it won't come on anymore. I'm super bummed out about this. Anyone else have this experience before?

One of my older ones won't come on once in a while, it's hit & miss. I give it a good tunk of the counter, sometimes a couple of times, and it comes back on. I've never had an error code though. ThermoWorks is great about helping out there, sometimes even if you're out of warranty (although don't tell them I told you that) they will still help to some degree.

Yes, it made sense to just go ahead an upgrade. The new one will have a 5 yr warranty rather than a 2 yr, an added bonus.

What was the code? “Err”? That’s a damaged probe.

I’d contact them. At least find out how much a repair would cost.

If a Thermapen is going to fail, this would be the time for it. I would have done as you just did, just get a One at this point. I keep looking at them in videos and I know I don't need to upgrade from my MK4, but if I do....I suspect I will wonder how I ever lived without it.

I had that happen with a different brand of probe. I had a loose battery connector apparently. I put a tiny bit of paper under the contact and it started working. before that I tried 2 different batteries.
