Combustion Inc has just announced their gen 2 Probes, Boosters and Display. Probes now 900*F rated and also rated for sous vide. Boosters and Display add WiFi. Here is a link to the combined package of new Gen 2 products although you can apparently mix the Gen 2 stuff with Gen 1 (Wifi capable Display Gen 2 with Gen 1 probes, for example).
I might consider this in the future - if my gen 1 worked each and every time I used it. Sometimes everything works, and sometimes it doesn't. On my last cook 3 nights ago, both the surface temp and the ambient temp stopped displaying in the app on my phone. I'll see how it goes on my next cook...
Valid point. I have had just one issue; it was very promptly resolved. My impression is that CI is working out bugs as they go, and countering with excellent customer/warranty service.

I asked CI about the compatibility of Gen 1 and Gen 2. Here is their response:
”
Thank you for your interest in our Gen2 products! Yes, you're absolutely correct - the new Gen2 Display is fully backward compatible and will work seamlessly with your Gen1 boosters and probes.
All of our 2nd-generation accessories (WiFi Display, WiFi Booster, and Giant Grill Gauge) have been specifically designed to work great with 1st-generation thermometers to ensure a smooth experience for our existing customers.“
Howdy, haven't been around the forum for a while (our r/combustion_inc keeps me pretty busy so I'm not as active on other forums as I once was). But happy to answer questions here. I know a lot of folks here purchased first generation Predictive Thermometers and might want to know what's different, what's not, etc.
mgaretz There does not appear to be any special upgrade pricing other than the current "order now discounts" as these are all pre-order right now. I did notice that you can buy a Gen 2 booster without thermometer, meaning you get the Gen 2 WiFi booster and use Gen 1 thermometers in it (coming Jan 2025, not December). Also, get a Gen 2 display with WiFi, and use existing Gen 1 boosters and Gen 1 thermometers with it.
GolfGeezer has this correct with regards to the ability to upgrade to WiFi by purchasing new WiFi accessories that are backward compatible. At the moment the production process for second generation hardware is just starting to ramp up, so we're very tight on inventory for Christmas—and after two days of sales, that's only gotten more concerning for me. Given this we're not yet in a position to run any kind of upgrade or trade in program.
