...my frustration with Combustion
Friday night after a short cook using Combustion's display, booster, and thermo, I left the booster in the kitchen. (I charge everything both before and after use.) About 3 hours later the phone app informed me that the booster was about to shut down because of a low battery - what thu...? And it did shut down. So I plugged it in to charge with a thermo in it. It did not charge overnight - the orange light was still lit.
I shot off an email to Combustion hoping to get a reply on Monday. However, to my surprize, they replied shortly after lunch. After several emails back and forth, (during which the light did turn green), a new booster is on the way, and I received confirmation for the replacement. It took a total of about 5 hours for this. This is great service IMHO.
As far as the frustration is concerned, sometimes one part or another just doesn't work today. It may work tomorrow, but I'm never sure if everything will work for the current cook.
I had trouble with a very short reception range when I first received it, but the booster helps most of the time. It does occasionally lose connection and it does reconnect on it's own. BTW - the distance from my kettle to the place I set the display is ~ 15', and passes through a double pane glass door.
Combustion has sent one replacement thermo.
The prediction feature stopped working for a few cooks, but is working again.
I will keep using it because I hate wires and I really like the prediction function. It does seem that opening the lid messes with the prediction though, and that makes sense because when the lid is opened, the ambient temp goes down and I'm guessing the prediction gets recalculated. It does seem to straighten out though.
I don't plan on ordering anything else from Combustion, at least for now.
