Don't crush your Fireboard like I did. <cry>

I was using my Fireboard 2 Drive as part of the testing of my new offset I just finished, and I misjudged the door clearance and smashed the upper left corner of my Fireboard 2 Drive unit. <sigh>

And a short video I took of the unit:

Definitely 100% my fault, but I've contacted them to see if I can pay to have it repaired. Hopefully, as I really love this thing. I still have my old original Fireboard, but it is getting long in the tooth and sometimes doesn't want to read some probe ports, etc. It's inconsistent, but it does still work, and I still love it, as well. The newer one is nicer, for sure, but hopefully they will be able to repair it.

    Just...

    DON'T BE ME! lol

Have you tried unplugging it and plugging it back in? [runs away]....

For your original, try spraying contact cleaner in the probe ports, insert the probes, and twist them around in there. It might work, it might not, but it’s the most obvious possible diagnosis and you should always have a can of contact cleaner around.

realdocBBQ People who don’t do anything don’t make mistakes. The rest of us do! Welcome to the productive side of life. It’s been great watching your skills and ability continue to grow. You’re actually a very gifted fabricator. Not every one has that gift.

Oh no! I somewhat feel your pain, as I used two welding gloves one time to pickup a hot 22" cooking grate and set it down on top of.... my Thermoworks Smoke! Melting the screen and face somewhat. Thermoworks was able to replace the case and fix the damage thankfully. I am sure that Fireboard will take care of you!

Ugh! I remember when this happened. Couldn't believe it then, can't believe it now. It's painful to think of. Your poor Smoke. Glad it was repairable.

Remember back when we cooked everything thermometer-free? Now we can't live without them.

            K.

fzxdoc Kathryn Right! I smoked for 20 years on an offset with nothing but a thermometer in the lid, and a crappy bimetal dial kitchen thermometer I found in a drawer... ribs and butts were just fine that way, but pork loin was always overcooked...

I contacted FB last year to inquire about a repair on my Drive 2 which was out of warranty. They had me send it in and determined that it couldn't be repaired but they offered to sell me a replacement for $98 which is a pretty good discount.

I just contacted them today, but I don't expect to hear from back before Monday.

          This will all work out.
I smashed a forefinger, years back, between a 1954 Army quarter ton trailer hitch and a rock wall. Daughter in high school drove me to ER. "That looks really gnarly Dad." She was very cool about it. Seated in ER waiting room, could barely stand it. Laid down on floor, arm in air, boots drumming on floor. That soon got me on a gurney in hallway. The sound of the anesthetic needle scraping on bone has stayed with me. 15+ years later, the nail still is not quite right. But OK, was never a hand model.

If it makes you feel any better, I ran one of my FBs over with my truck. I had it on the bed rail when I was unpacking my stuff for a remote cook. Set it on the bed rail........"Ah, it's fine, I will remember I put it there." NOPE. Of course when it fell off the bed rail, it bounced perfectly.......under the wheel.......somehow. I looked out my mirror and saw it smashed on the dive way. Thankfully, I had a back up with me, but that unit was smashed flat.

texastweeter motorized doves prove those conspiracy theorists right!

They used to be. Until the U.S. Government replaced them with drone replicas designed to spy on the American public. Founded in 1976.
