Retired, living in Western Mass. Enjoy music, cooking and my family.
Current cookers Weber Spirit 3 burner with a full insert griddle added. A 22" Kettle with vortex, SnS and a Smokey Joe. The most recent addition is a Pit Barrel Jr with bird hanger, 4 hooks and cover. ThermoWorks Smoke 2 probe, DOT, 2 ThermoPops and a Thermapen MK4. A Thermoworks RFX Gateway 2 probe meat thermometer.

I care more about my grate temperatures than at the top of the cooker and their predictive thermometer tells me that. Now if it connected to the thermometers in the meat and rebroadcast their signal over wifi I might take a second look only because last night I was having an issue with my display, sitting about 6 feet away, connecting to my thermometers in my kettle. They kept getting disconnected from the display. I corrected my issue by moving my display onto the kettle shelf. However then I lose space on the shelf for my food tray.

Hey chefchrisyoung glad to see you here! I didn't know you were a member. Really cool! Thanks for participating in the community!
For me, I don't really understand the Giant Grill Gauge thing. Is this a magnetic thermometer that tells me the outside surface temp of my kettle or whatever I stick it on? If so... what really is the utility of that? Does it have a probe that goes inside? Is it a repeater for your regular CPT? I just didn't get it from reading the little product blurb page. I know more info will be coming, so that's ok, I'm not 'one of those guys' chomping at the bit.
I need to do some more research on the CPT and the software, etc. I've been a Fireboard user for years and my original FB unit is getting long in the tooth - having some connectivity issues, probe ports are loose, etc. I like having lots of probes and readings and I really like Fireboard's software - but I WILL be honest, having the owner and founder of Combustion, Inc. here on AR is a plus - not because I can bug him with questions (haha!) all the time, but just because I'd like to support someone who actually PARTICIPATES in the community. Also, I love watching your YT videos, I think they're extremely well done - and I like your sense of humor. lol
I'm curious, how many CPTs can you run at one time on a repeater and such? That's one thing I like about my FB, I can monitor multiple temps inside my cookers (I build them) and get accurate 'temp mapping' along the grate surface.
Anyways, again, thanks for being a part of AR!

It will be interesting to see how this matches up against Fireboard's new wireless Pulse offering and Thermoworks RFX. Both the FB and TW offerings can handle a LOT of probes, although it is unclear how their Apps will integrate that many. CI is way behind the curve in this area even with this new offering, although I am glad to see CI finally embrace WiFi.

Fireboard has specifically said their new wireless probes will integrate directly into their appt and will display directly alongside their current wired offerings as an additional sensor - which is freaking phenomenal! As I said, I've been a big fan of Fireboard's software and implementation for many years. Their new wireless probe is quite tempting, and since I am thinking of replacing my FB 6-probe wired thermometer, it is a big temptation to continue to invest in their platform... we'll see.

Argh, sorry this is really old. I need to dig into why I'm not getting notifications. Anyway, the Giant Grill Gauge can manage 4 Predictive Thermometers at once, plus it now connects to the just announced Combustion Engine for entirely wireless temperature control. EDIT [Looks like email notifications were turned off somehow, fixed]

I was gonna bid $10 - but they wanted my phone number to register, so I bailed.

realdocBBQ I kind of resented the whole approach. Just my personal sense about how new products are promoted. A contest to “win” a new temp monitor that is “won” by the highest bidders? No thanks.
