Anybody tried the Typhur wireless thermometer?

Never heard of this one, saw it in the comments of Steve Gow's expansive 1.5 HOUR LONG wireless thermometer review (still haven't finished it, no). Went and looked it up, looked at a couple of short reviews of the Typhur... looks pretty good.

I have thought the Combustion might be my next purchase in the wireless category (I need a new Fireboard, first, mine is DYYYYYIIIINGGGG), but I dunno. Now I've got to do some more research. Luckily, it's going to be a while before I can afford this, so... I have some time. lol

    Anyone? Thoughts? Opinions? Experience?

Like I said, I'd never heard of it until today.

I am more curious about why the Fireboard is dying and why Fireboard customer can’t fix it for you.

I am really tempted to get one. The big step forward, to me, is that it uses WiFi, while all the others, including CI, use Bluetooth. It looks very competitive from a feature and probe thinness standpoint. As stated on Laugh In, “Very interesting ( somewhat German accent..)”…

I recall you were unhappy with the Combustion due to the BT. Did you ever find one you liked?

STEbbq I do like the CI probes and still use them. I did check out these, but did not pull the trigger (yet) on them. I sort of lost interest, and now my new pizza oven has been filling the MCS itch and this idea sort fell off the radar.

It looks pretty good. No experience with it though. I did succumb to the heavy TempSpike advertising and bought the twin tempspike. I have used it twice. The first time it worked pretty good but the other day one of the probes wouldn't charge or work at all with a partial charge, and the base unit kept dropping the connection to the app. I was sitting made 15' from the grill. The good news is that I contacted Thermopro and they are sending me a new unit. If I had seen this I probably would have tried it out. The probes on my XR 50 have died and I haven't replaced them yet.

Temp Spike is really good...I have the twin and really like that you do not need to use your phone (you can if you want to) and it is great for Sous VIde

I started with the Meater+ ...gave that to my neighbor (never like that guy very much anyway!)

My Fireboard is old. The original version, probably at least 6 years old now? Maybe more?

It's just acting funny, some channels don't read sometimes, even with the authentic Fireboard probes, etc. And it's intermittent which ports don't read, and which probes don't read, so it's not bad probes, I don't think. The other day, the screen blanked and it wouldn't turn off. Had to wait a few minutes and try again and it finally came back up so I could shut it down.

Overall, I have been extremely pleased with my Fireboard for years, though. The only other thing is that I can seldom seem to get pictures to attach to the cook - seems more of an app problem, but I just live with it. The app in general is stellar, head and shoulders above anything else I've seen.

I haven't bothered to contact support - like I said, it's very long in the tooth at this point.

<edit> Just checked my account - purchased March 31, 2018.

I bought my FB in June 2018, and it is doing more or less everything you described even with brand new probes. Fireboard has been kinda meh it's old and way out of warranty, so it has been relegated to the last resort category. The TempSpike works well and keeps in contact, but the ambient temp reading is usually way off (too close the meat?), is only good for large thick cuts of meat (prime rib), the barrel size of the probes are about the same according to the specs (+/- 1/4 inch), and .

the distance is never close to what is advertised unless the cooker door is open. The biggest advantage is if you are using it on a rotisserie. I realize this doesn't help with knowing about the Typhur.. However, the wireless so far all seem to have similar issues. Getting better, but I still prefer a wired one

STEbbq I finally gave my old Fireboard 1 to a friend in Spring 2021 and got a Fireboard 2. That’s been going strong. And my friend is still using the Fireboard 1 with good success. That said, it’s 7 or 8 years old now and I wouldn’t be surprised if it had issues at this point. It’s definitely been used 1000 times so far, which is a testament to Fireboard, obviously. My FB2 has probably got 400 cooks on it now and going strong.

Might be worth contacting FB's customer service. They might be able to sell you a replacement unit at a discounted price. Also, the probes can go bad. Might be worth buying a new probe to see if it performs the same as the old one.

Oh I been through a bunch of probes. No telling how many I have. I used to buy the Fireboard probes, but once I found out the Thermopro ones work with it, I've been using them. Still have some Fb probes, too, though. It does it on different channels (though 5 and 6 seem to be the worst), and with all the different probes.

Do all three Combustions display on one app? Do you know how many it will support at once, ssennott?

It takes three without any problem although I view them on an IPad as on the iPhone it gets crowded
