    Probe compatibility

My last Fireboard meat probe crapped out right before I was going to cook some 2" thick strips for Valentine's day. It was reading 732 degrees. I carefully straightened the cable and it came down to around 175. The ambient probe is still good.

Point is I took every other probe I could find and plugged them in. All went into a glass of water (not touching the cables) including the ambient Fireboard probe. Good news is, they are all within 1/2 degree of each other. Inkbird, SNS and I think one other oddball seem to work fine, saved the day!

Smoking 50lbs of pork butts last night, ambient on my Thermoworks Smoke showed -57-F. Finally got better and read 5-F the rest of the cook.

I smoked a monster piece of salmon for SWMBO last night. Get ready to settle in and the numbers on the remote are all screwed up!?!? It was on centigrade. LOL

For those Fireboard owners who don't want to spend $80 on a new set of probes:

These Thermopro probes work perfectly with Fireboards - at least the original.

I've got several sets and they all work fine - now time to upgrade my actual Fireboard soon...

Thanks for this recommendation. I’ve got a Thermoworks Smoke and tend to fry the probes every couple of years. The one’s from Thermoworks aren’t super expensive, but they always nail you with shipping. I’ll keep this in mind next time I need replacements.

One purchaser reported that they are compatible as 100K Thermistor type probes for the Fireboard. A couple of my current FB probes are showing wear around the connection of the cable to the probe, so I ordered these ($30 bucks on Amazon currently using a one-time 10% off coupon). Should be easy to test and verify if that is so.

UPDATE: Received the pack I ordered and just did a quick ice water test with my FireBoard V2. They tested just fine as a thermistor 100k probe. The one thing to note is that they are very long, almost twice the length of the standard FB probes, both ambient and food types. The color coding of each probe that is built in is very nice. So, as a lower cost alternative, I would rate them as very acceptable.
