I used to have a Smoke, and it worked very well, but I found the range on the receiver to be a little limited because I was living in an old house with a lot of brick. I accidentally melted that Smoke. So, I've been using the Signals for about a year now, and it's been fantastic.

I find the latest version of the app to be intuitive and easy to use. I like the data it provides. I enjoy the thoughtful little touches like being able to color code the graphs on the app to match the silicone color rings I have for the probes, or being able to name each channel so you know exactly what you're looking at (eg, I had one labelled "Breast" and one labelled "Thigh" when I was cooking my Thanksgiving bird). I even used the ambient temp probe to troubleshoot a temperature problem with my indoor oven.

I have a Google Pixel phone, and the alarm is definitely loud enough to wake me up as long as I have the permission set for it to override "do not disturb" or "bedtime mode". You have to make sure of that, though, otherwise it's only a visual alert. The alarm on the base unit is loud enough that I can hear it from outside when I'm inside and a room away.

Overall, I don't think you can go wrong with anything from ThermoWorks. Their products are high quality and I can tell you from personal experience that their customer service is top rate. I'd pick the Signals over the Smoke, though, for flexibility (if you have the billows, you can manage your cook from anywhere on the planet you have WiFi or cell coverage) and the bells and whistles that come with the app.
