Compatibility Between Fireboard 2 Pro and Pit Viper 10CFM Blower
I would like to get the Fireboard 2 Pro for my incoming Big Joe III Kamado. Others have advised against the Fireboard 20CFM blower owing to the imperfect fit on the Big Joe, and they have recommended the Pit Viper 10CFM blower instead.
Can anyone confirm that these two components are compatible?
I of course love smoked meats of all kinds, but also like quick cooks like chicken portions, pork tenderloins, steak and fish. Really into cooking of all kinds.
My outdoor kitchen has a Lone Star Grillz Adjustable and it is wonderful. There also is a Pit Boss 5 Burner Ultimate Griddle and a Pit Boss Copperhead pellet grill.
There is an outdoor fire pit that has grilling capability and limited Santa Maria-style grill raising and lowering.
Yes. The fan plugs in and the controller recognizes it right away. That’s the setup I use now.
Thanks for this, Jim!
Can you offer me any advice on which Fireboard probes to get? I intend to roast marinated leg of lamb and to smoke BBQ ribs, pork butt and brisket to begin with.
With the FireBoard 2 Pro, only the Type K thermocouple probes work. The controller comes with the pit probe and two food probes you will need. (There are only three ports on this one.)

I’m finding it hard to decide which Fireboard unit would be best for me. If I were selling these things, I would be offering way more detailed explanations regarding differences in functionality so customers could make an intelligent choice.
Has anyone done a comparison among the three different models?

I would go with the Fireboard 2 as you want to control temps with a non-Fireboard fan, and it will work with the Pit Viper. I presume the Pit Viper comes with a fan cable. As was pointed out above, the Pro uses only K-type probes, while the FB 2 and Fireboard Drive versions have 6 ports for probes. The FB 2 comes with 1 Ambient probe and 2 food probes. If you are going to cook more than 1 piece of meat, I would recommend buying 2 more Thermistor type food probes.

Is anyone able to offer any insight on using the 1” Fireboard Probes? I’m assuming they would be used with small filet mignon, small hamburgers, etc. I’m a newcomer, though, hence my asking.

Did you mean to recommend the Fireboard 2 Drive?
As I understand it, the Fireboard 2 isn’t compatible with any blower.
Actually, I thought it is/was compatible. I would call them - they are very responsive. The reason I suggested the FB 2 over the FB Drive is that the FB Drive comes with a fan cable designed for their fan. You want the PV, so that led me to the FB 2. I am pretty sure there are some Posts about using the FB with a Pit Viper, although they were some time ago.

I have used the Pit viper for over 5 years now. Never had a problem. I have ran it in 100 F outside temps as well as temps well below 0 F. Never had an issue. It just keeps on working!
Just make sure you order the adapter from Pit Viper.
