replace Maverick XR probes or get a newer tech thermometer?

Happy 4th to all in the US!!!! Sorry the rest of you are at work today. I've got 2 racks of St Louis cut ribs on the kettle today and it's almost 95F already!

I forgot that both of my shorter hybrid probes for the XR broke a few months ago. My dilemma is to spend $20 on a pair of replacement probes or up to $100 on a new system. I've really liked the Maverick for the past few years and would be happy to just get the probes and continue. However, the newer bluetooth thermometers look pretty nice...

Is the newer tech that much better? The probes are more costly to replace but the BT will connect to my phone so no more batteries needed in the main and remote units. Any experiences with the software? How well do they work while moving around the house? Is Wi-Fi compatibility only for keeping the unit up to date or can it also communicate with the app via Wi-Fi, in addition to Bluetooth?

I have the Maverick XR 50. SnS has their 4-probe thermometer on sale for $59.99 then a 20% off code on Amazon Prime. It may be worth looking at even though it is not Bluetooth.

I really liked the XR50, replaced the probes once and later gave it to my buddy's college age sons when I bought the SnS 500. I really like both, signal range was fine. I don't need Bluetooth so it worked for me. I'd say buy the probes unless blue tooth is a must.

XR-50, SnS-500, and Smoke X4 are my 3 personal faves. The SnS-500 and the Mav XR-50 are very similar overall, with the SnS leading it IMO, but likely not enough to warrant your upgrading. The Smoke X4 tops them all, again IMO. I never got into the BT use-your-phone-as-the-receiver craze so I can't tell you if they're worth it because to me personally they're not. To me, if I were you, I'd just replace the probes on your XR-50 unless you wanted to go all out and upgrade significantly.
