    Thermometer competition ups the game....

Last year industry stalwart Thermapen brought out the model One that promises 1 second reporting time of the temperature measured. Getting closer to the "instant" read claimed by many. This morning I got a pop up ad for a new product that cuts that time to a claimed 3/4 of a second. I know nothing of this product personally, but if it delivers there may be a new "big dog" in town. Pricing looks to be on parr with Thermapen.

I went from a regular Thermapen to the One, and honestly found the difference between 5 seconds and 1 second to be useful in practice. But I’m not sure 1/4 second would be useful.

      Thermoworks is A+.

They have good product, good service, free Jelly Bellys. Why go anywhere else?

I had a ThermoPro IR thermometer which gave up the ghost a couple of months ago. The probe broke off from the body. Fortunately my wife had gifted me a Thermapen One for Christmas which got pressed into action soon thereafter. It now has a crack in the plastic case which renders its waterproof properties nil. 🤬 I really don’t think I’m that rough on them but they do get a lot of use.

Update: ThermoWorks is sending me a new TP One! Great customer service!

You are tough on your thermometers.

It sure looks nicer than the Thermapen One and would love the built in magnet versus needing to add a silicone cover with a magnet in it. However, I already have a One, so will stick with it for now.

The magnet on my ThermoPro was great!

I have never actually gotten a 1 sec reading from my One. By that I mean going from room temp to product temp. Are you guys really getting 1 sec reads?

Now I gotta figure out what I'm going to do with all the 1/4 seconds I'm going to save.

My Thermapen MK4 stopped working when I swapped out the battery. I replace batteries in things about every four months to keep leak damage at bay. I think I messed up the retaining spring, which also serves as the negative contact point.

So Thermoworks sent me a One for 35% off and free shipping. I dropped off the MK4 for shipping at the UPS Store yesterday with an RMA#.

Besides being faster, the One has a brighter display. It's blue, just like on my Smoke displays. It already came with a battery, but the case looks like it now has a more typical design battery compartment. I used it for lunch today, checking drummies on the grill.

A talking thermometer that tells me the temp Right Before I insert the probe is what I really need.
