Last year industry stalwart Thermapen brought out the model One that promises 1 second reporting time of the temperature measured. Getting closer to the "instant" read claimed by many. This morning I got a pop up ad for a new product that cuts that time to a claimed 3/4 of a second. I know nothing of this product personally, but if it delivers there may be a new "big dog" in town. Pricing looks to be on parr with Thermapen. Typhur InstaProbe™ | Best Instant Read Meat Thermometer - Typhur InstaProbe™ | Best Instant Read Meat Thermometer

Large Big Green Egg, Weber Performer Deluxe, Weber Smokey Joe Silver, Fireboard Drive, 3 DigiQs, lots of Thermapens, and too much other stuff to mention.
I went from a regular Thermapen to the One, and honestly found the difference between 5 seconds and 1 second to be useful in practice. But I’m not sure 1/4 second would be useful.
I had a ThermoPro IR thermometer which gave up the ghost a couple of months ago. The probe broke off from the body. Fortunately my wife had gifted me a Thermapen One for Christmas which got pressed into action soon thereafter. It now has a crack in the plastic case which renders its waterproof properties nil. 🤬 I really don’t think I’m that rough on them but they do get a lot of use.
Update: ThermoWorks is sending me a new TP One! Great customer service!
It sure looks nicer than the Thermapen One and would love the built in magnet versus needing to add a silicone cover with a magnet in it. However, I already have a One, so will stick with it for now.
I have never actually gotten a 1 sec reading from my One. By that I mean going from room temp to product temp. Are you guys really getting 1 sec reads?

My Thermapen MK4 stopped working when I swapped out the battery. I replace batteries in things about every four months to keep leak damage at bay. I think I messed up the retaining spring, which also serves as the negative contact point.
So Thermoworks sent me a One for 35% off and free shipping. I dropped off the MK4 for shipping at the UPS Store yesterday with an RMA#.
Besides being faster, the One has a brighter display. It's blue, just like on my Smoke displays. It already came with a battery, but the case looks like it now has a more typical design battery compartment. I used it for lunch today, checking drummies on the grill.
