I have the Smoke and am happy with it. I also have a DOT, so if I need a 3rd probe I use it. I also like the magnets on both the Smoke & DOT. The working table I have is a stainless steel top and slap them on facing me on my porch for easy looks at them. One other thing, customer service is top notch. The stand for the Smoke broke (don't know how?) contacted them to get a replacement and figured I would need to pay for the part and shipping, nope. Will get one out to you, no charge. A couple of days later it arrived. Can't speak for the other 2 mentioned, I'm sure you won't go wrong with either of them.

Current cookers Weber Spirit 3 burner with a full insert griddle added. A 22" Kettle with vortex, SnS and a Smokey Joe. The most recent addition is a Pit Barrel Jr with bird hanger, 4 hooks and cover. ThermoWorks Smoke 2 probe, DOT, 2 ThermoPops and a Thermapen MK4. A Thermoworks RFX Gateway 2 probe meat thermometer.

After getting much appreciated feedback from everyone, I have checked out the Fireboard which led me to the Thermoworks Signals with a Billows fan & am leaning towards the Signals with the billows, The Fireboard looks great but with their blower & everything needed to use their blower the price would be much higher since both Thermoworks products are on sale now. Thanks one and all!

I've been using my Smoke for several years now. It replaced an older Maverick, not sure of the model tho. The gateway is a great add on too, for those that like the connectivity with it. After the firmware update a while back, it was a pain to get it to sync, probably on my end tho. Thermoworks is great though, it went on sale about a week after I bought it and emailed them, on a whim, to see if I could get a refund for the sales difference. Sure enough they did. Great company.

- If not cooking outdoors, I am cooking on the stovetop with my 14" carbon steel wok, 12" CI skillet, or in the oven with my two Lodge CI pizza pans, or two dutch ovens. I've also got a nifty Lodge carbon steel grill pan that rocks for veggies outdoors.
I too do not believe I have ever paid full price for a Thermoworks product - I'll catch 15% to 20% off sales or coupon codes from them. I started with a RT600C (one of their $20ish pocket digitals), then moved to a Thermapen Classic, and a Dot for my leave in thermometer, with a separate air probe. I would move the Dot between the meat probe and air probe on my offset, and mostly used it to compare the grate temp to the dome temp in my offset. Finally I got the Smoke, then later the Smoke Gateway. I also bought Thermopop's one Christmas for my son, both son-in-laws, and my dad.

Though OP has probably made the purchase by now, I'll chime in because I had both the XR-50 and the Smoke with Gateway. XR-50 has better range, but no app control. Maverick customer service was very good about sending a replacement probe at no charge when one seemed to conk out. Turned out it may have just needed to dry thoroughly. I have sold my XR-50 to a friend to upgrade to an app controlled 4 channel that will control a fan. I'm cooking more with multiple items and a 2-probe device is not always enough. If I didn't want the app and fan control, I'd buy the SNS-500 which is similar to the XR-50 but I like the grey color.
A subjective list of pros and cons:
XR-50 Pros: excellent range, intelligent programming for alarms, backlight, doesn't whine if probes are missing, can sit on a table or hang with the support or use magnets, good battery life, durable, good support from the manufacturer.
XR-50 Cons: probe cables have no spring at the probe ends and can let in moisture, no app, smaller variety of probes.
Smoke Pros: app control with the Gateway, backlight, multiple types of probes that work with other devices, easy programming, magnets and table stand, durable, excellent support, good battery life. The app is very good.
Smoke Cons: only 2 probe inputs, remote never stops complaining if a probe is not connected, need separate stand for the remote to sit vertically on a table, shorter range (unless using app), finicky to set up WiFi on the Gateway.
