    Fireboard users' probe question

I have been spending likely too much time going down rabbit holes of Fireboard technology.

Do any of you use the RTD probe for their ambient probe? i felt like there is enough of a reason to buy one, and run it side by side on a few cooks, and is there a better lead for the drive channel. the article talked about the RTD does not respond to all the noise in a fire (they said it more technical)

For cooking at home, I don't see any value to using RTD probes. We use them a lot at work, but we need the distance compensation you get with 3 and 4 wire RTD's. For at home, the thermistor is quite good enough. Just my opinion. Not to be taken as "truth" or "fact"

I have a set of the "older" RTDs that came with the gen1 FB, as well as a full set of Thermistor 100Ks that I now use with my gen 2 FB and the Spark. I think I also have some 100K RTDs - need to look in the "pile of stuff" drawer to see. Regardless, I have never noticed a difference in performance or use from smoker, oven or grill. Really seems to be just me "tech geeking" versus actual performance or need. Just like having Thermoworks DOTs, MK4s, a Zero and Thermoworks Signals - I couldn't tell you if one is a big difference over the other, except maybe response time (0 seconds versus 3 seconds?).

I run a RTD in my WSCG with the drive and keep the thermistor in my MAK. However, not because I had information about noise with the thermistor affecting drive, but because I already had it there from my original FB that came with RTDs.

I have both types that I use with the FB2 and haven't noticed any difference in everyday backyard use. Since you have to configure each port for the type of probe and the probes look very similar, it is a little bit of a pain to have different types.

+1, I've run both and can't tell the difference. Both are very accurate and it's cooking here, not rocket science.
