    Lead management ideas?

I hate leads that need to be untangled, yet I can’t come to grip to purchase something for every single lead I might have in use. I love that spool that thermoworks has, but, anyone have less expensive options. I would love to have about a dozen of them ready.

Try a koozzi. I use this for my temp probe.

I'm using a length of pipe insulation. You can press either side of the probe into the foam and wrap the wire around it.

Attjack my guess is that they just detach the controller and leave the leads and probe in the smoker full time. When ready to go, they reattach the controller, and put probe in meat.

I read that a chunk of pool noodle is a nice hack.

Oh yeah, since it has that slit. Of course it would likely burn up once I fire up the pellet pooper.

Yes, that's basically the same as my pipe insulation solution. It works.

This. A 12” section can hold 6 probe wires wrapped around it comfortably.

(Edit) Do you mean for storing, or during cooking? My solution is for storing. During cooking, I just let them be.

Wont work for everyone, but since my smoke etc generally sit in the same place and my cookers dont move, ive just spooled up the middle length, secured with twist ties and have enough lead on the probe side to run to the far side of the grill, which typically isnt much. Spool sits next to the thermometer and probe runs into the grill. No real tangles to deal with.

My thoughts to do a dozen for less than $30 is to buy 25 4” wooden discs ($8) and 100 2” wooden discs ($12) and wood glue ($5) them together in the following sequence 4” 2” 2” 2” 2” 4” then buy 6 pieces of 4”x6” magnetic sheet ($5) and cut them in half and attach to each wooden spool you made.

I only have a 2-lead thermometer. One probe always stays in the pit, and the other probe is stored in a plastic sandwich bag when not in use.

Best thing I have found so far; cheap and effective: https://store.heatermeter.com/produc...moworks-probes

I have learned to untangle a "bird-nest" in my level wind, so probe leads are no problem.

I almost broke rods in frustration when i was learning casting after years of spinners.

I use the Thermoworks spools too (ordered when they were on sale), they work well and with the magnet in the middle I can keep them hanging on my cooking cart ready for action.

Funny story on probe holders. I sent a review on my opinions of the fireboard set up I am running, to Fireboard, which prompted the ceo co founder of the company to send me a personal message of thanks and if he could share it with the entire company. He also sent me a small gift that arrived today, part of it was. Three pack of probe holders, as much as I love fireboard, thermoworks probe holders are incredibly better then fireboards. lol. They also sent me some rub, so I am sending my rub back to the ceo - cofounder, to have.
