Meater Block: Reviews? Any better wireless?

I am highly skeptical. For one, what is the advantage to wireless? Other than rotisserie, I can't think of any. If your grill lid closes properly, you are not going to get any leaks that matter with wires. If the lid leaks enough to matter, the problem is not the probe wires.

And the disadvantages to wireless? Lets see here. They are battery powered AND have transistors / chips in them. Both are known to not like heat. So lets stick them into a hot grill for hours on end and I am sure nothing will happen. Also metal is known to block the frequencies used by bluetooth and wifi.

I am all about wireless crap, but sometimes it is a solution in search of a problem.

I can't speak to the Block, but I have been using a single Meater+ for several months and don't have any problems with it at all. I absolutely love it. In fact, I rarely use my Thermoworks products anymore. I would love to have the Block, but $299 is steep. That said, I will probably order one when I drink enough beer.

I have the Meater+ and my question is does the close proximity to the cold meat cause the ambient temperature part of the probe to read a lower temp than a few inches away from it?
Do I need to start the cook with the probe inserted just to the safety line then push it in deeper later on in the cook?
The Virtual WSM guys got me thinking.

          First things, first: YMMV!

I have had the Meater+ for a couple of years and it's awesome 😎

Got the Meater Block as a gift earlier this year and spent hours trying to get it to work (for me). Lots of time with Support - online chat, email and even a phone call; all to no avail. Support claims the device operates correctly, my experience with connection issues was maddening.

Thank goodness for Amazon's Return Policy 🙌.

          Peace,
          Nunyaz

I have been wondering about these myself. I recently purchased a Chef IQ off amazon and probably will be returning it. The meat side of the probe has been within a couple degrees within my Thermapen, but is way off on the ambient side.

I have a Meater Block that I only had to wait two + years to get after ordering. The first thing I did after charging was to check the probes for accuracy. They were not up to my, (slightly OC), standards. I put it back in the box and it has been untouched since. If anyone would like to take a whack at it, you can have it for $25 plus shipping. I'd give it away, but after waiting all that time and spending that much for it, I feel like I should get something back for it.
