So now that I've had my Thermapen One for a few weeks I figured I'd give my thoughts.
I have had my TP18 for 4 years and it's a fantastic value at $19.99. And it even has some features I like better than the Thermoworks unit. However it has one glaring problem, it's way too easy to switch from F to C.
So at an msrp of $105 (on sale for around 80) the Thermoworks offering IS absolutely better. It's dead on with temp, the TP18 is off 1 degree. The auto off/auto on when you pick it up is glorious as is the auto rotating screen and auto backlight. Also it's stupid fast to get a reading, I might even be able to grow hair back on my hands now :P
So what doesn't it have? It doesn't have a magnet, you have to buy a case with one embedded for another $13, IMO this should be included with the purchase. The case is glow in the dark, and charges with sunlight in seconds. I don't cook in the dark, but I guess some folks do, so maybe a nice feature... it's glowing in my daylight kitchen in the pic below.
There are complaints about it not having 2 magnets and not sticking, but I have no issue with it sticking and holding any direction on my fridge, I wouldn't trust it to hold horizontal under anything though.
It also is manual to extend the probe, which turns the unit on, not a huge deal but the switchblade button on the TP18 is nice for 1 handed operation.
So is it worth the price difference? I think so, less seconds my hand is in the hot zone of a cooker is a huge plus. It's definitely more stout than the TP18 and has a better warranty.
