I was checking out new wifi to internet thermometers and these wireless thermometers (so popular), and I found a link to the AR reviews on the free side...the Tappecue was the best (it seems, overall) with both wired and wireless probes. So I found one on Amazon, in stock, that comes with four dual sensor probes, each probe sensing both the meat insertion end and the ambient local temps. The box seal had been broken, so with some dread, I went through all the setup, and installed the phone app, and plugged in the probes...and there it was, after a couple of minutes, all eight sensors reading about 72 room temp. I wasn't prepared to really test it...so I checked the chart function (on the phone app) and it showed some wild gyrations in some sensor readings in the first moments and then all just clicking steady...then chart a "session," which appears to average instant temps to show the trend. A recorded session can be saved on the web site ($2 each after five free "saves") or emailed directly to you. I expect to use the email function. I may not use this right away, will be waiting on a wet cure of venison and a brisket flat. I have a nice ten pound butt and I'm tempted to plug all four probes into it and see what goes...maybe tomorrow.

Don't be fooled. WIFI for BBQ pits is a two-edged sword. Do you really want to monitor the pit from anywhere while you're busy taking care of business, or would you rather sit by your pit sipping beer, or another adult beverage?
SWMBO finds me honey-does. I humbly expressed "Not now sweetheart, I'm trying to smoke this roast for our dinner for tonight." Then she snapped, "But that's why you got that expensive Traeger with WIF, isn't it? So, you can do other things too?"Last edited by bbqLuv; January 5, 2022, 10:11 AM.

Current line-up of cookers: Oklahoma Joe's Bronco Pro, Masterbuilt Gravity Series 1050, Blackstone ProSeries 4 Burner 36" griddle, Weber Performer Deluxe and Weber Smokey Joe.
Good to see Tappecue seems to have gotten it together now. I had one of their units about 5 years ago, and it was basically a prototype at that point. Lots of nice features, but really buggy and support was not at all helpful at that time. The lady who seemed to be in charge would get defensive anytime I contacted them about a problem. I eventually got tired of doing the constant troubleshooting and sold it on eBay.Last edited by Steve R.; January 5, 2022, 10:10 AM.

Reading through the FAQs, it looks like they support what they call offline mode where you can use the device up to 180 feet but no internet. This offline mode is not Bluetooth but something else. They also support WIFi for internet mode.

Offline mode sounds like RF? I've had good experiences with that on my relatively large property and old house with lathe and plaster walls. Bluetooth is pretty useless unless I'm in the outdoor kitchen. WiFi is really nice for long cooks when you have places to be but need to know if say your pit temp drops or starts to run away.
