There are a number of vendors who have similar situations, even without "specials" being offered. Apparently Amazon charges significant commissions for processing orders, in part because they offer so much more visibility for "normal" shoppers. A few times when I've been interested in a product I'll search the net for a proprietary site for the listed vendor and find that their day to day pricing is something like 10% less than the Amazon pricing. Have experienced that on ebay as well.
In a similar vein, products that pop up at Costco for a year or so and then disappear do so likely for marketing/name familiarity reasons. They have to deeply discount to get into Costco's stream but are willing to do so to get the public familiar with their product and then hope those customers will seek them out later when they no longer play Costco's game.
This is the reverse: faster, free shipping, same price. It will be here today, I’m curious if it is an actual Boos board, or perhaps a factory second. It should be easy to tell. If it’s either one I’ll just ship it back, and order from Boos and wait.

This is my first one (well, second one in this size, having ordered it again by accident; I sold the first one that had very little use to Maxriptin). It’s a great board, but it’s just a little too big for my counter space. I use it when I take a bunch of stuff out on the deck to prep; I would go out there to make salsa, salads, sides, meatballs, etc.. this one is the basic Maple R Board, 20”x15”x1-1/2”. It took 3 weeks to the day to ship from John Boos.
This is the one I just received. It’s the small Maple R Board, 18”x12”x1-1/2”. It’s a much nicer fit for my counter! It is also commensurately lighter. It’s still pretty heavy, but not like the first one. This board arrived the day after I ordered it; it was shipped from a local distributor. Local as in, about 10 miles away. Nanticoke to Mountain Top, look it up on a map.
This is the board I’ve been using for quite a while. I bought it about 15 years ago from a guy at a farm stand who was learning how to make them, for $15. It’s a little hard to tell, but the upper seam is starting to separate. This has been a really good cutting board, but it’s a little bit small. I’ve dealt with that. But when the glue starts to separate it’s time to replace it.
I like the end grain boards, but not the price! Same with the nicer woods. These are good enough for my use. And the Boos end grain boards are over 2” thick, as much as 4” in some cases. That’s a damn heavy board.
