    Cutting board with a moat?

So is there a good cutting board with a deep moat or should I just put the cutting board in a sheet pan to collect the over flow?

Yes but what material do you want it made of, and at what price point?

The other option if you like your existing cutting board is simply to buy another but in a larger size. This gives you more real estate to cut on and to hold the juices other than trying to capture them all in the juice grooves.

haven’t really thought about material or price, just looking for options

The DripEZ Tubs work perfectly for this. The bottom is a cutting board. With the sides all the way down, there is a large, deep moat surrounding it. You can raise the sides to 3 different levels.

If you think of it as just a prep tub, it isn’t worth it. If you see it as streamlining and simplifying the transition from package to heat source, you marvel at its ingenuity and drop your $ on it!

Or buy a big board and borrow a router to make the mote of your dreams!

I put my cutting board next to the sink and prop the opposite end up with a piece of cedar plank. Excess drains directly into the sink.

I was gifted a Boos Block cutting board for participating in a Big Green Egg Fest a few years ago. It has a generous juice grove on one side. They are not inexpensive, but definitely may favorite cutting board. It gets daily use and still looks great.

I have 2 with moats and I like them they definitely work! One of mine is from mgaretz and it's logoed up with Pitmaster Club graphics, you can find them here. I believe he has two sizes with moats.

I always put them on boards I am making unless they are charcuterie boards. Once you have a jig made, they are easy to put in. Oh yeah, having a router helps too.

If you are carving any kind of meat, you really should have one on your cutting board.

That is a good price but I am reading that bamboo cutting boards can be tough on a quality sharp knife. My better half gave me a couple of Shun knives for Christmas and a birthday a year or two ago. I've kept them away from the one bamboo board we have and neither of them have needed sharpening (or even honing) since I unwrapped them.

I was unaware that bamboo would dull an edge. I use two bamboo boards but my Henckels seem to stay sharp. Interesting, I may have to watch the pressure applied.

I've been wanting to modify or make one for a long time. I hate the shallow moat you find on so many boards. I just got a new DeWalt router that I'm going to use to modify an existing cutting board. Down the line a cutting board from scratch is on my list of projects and it will have a deep moat, and maybe a removable juice catcher.

Or…. A big ole kitchen towel to catch the run off. Especially if you’re not doing a board sauce.

Moat to me is not the big thing, but wood over plastic is huge.
I use no plastics. I was once asked what to clean the wood board with, vinegar is the answer. I then use an oh so thin layer of beef tallow or bacon grease to coat it.

I shoot mine with Clorox spray once a week or so, with an immediate wipe down and rinse.

I usa a plastic board for raw chicken on on side and raw pork on the other side. But all my other boards are wood.

Well if this was a snake it would have bit me. 😁

I had previously cut down one of those thin plastic cutting pads to install in the RV oven pan. The RV has limited storage. I grabbed another cutting pad and put it in the house for future moteability!

the interweb is not letting me upload pics today, will try later….

I tried to pic some salted Dk Choc Caramels first am. It did not even give me the chance to use a smaller size pic.

I know you got it handled now, but it took me a bit to get this out; this is my ā€œserving boardā€. It’s Zwilling. It’s bamboo but it’s not a regular use board, it’s for serving roasts, turkey, slicing brisket, etc; ā€œcenter of the tableā€ stuff, and as such it gets used maybe half a dozen times a year. But it looks good and it definitely keeps the juices under control. You can find it lots of places for $40, google ā€œZwilling cutting board with trayā€.

These are the best, hands down. Only problem is you have to make a pretty thick board to make these work.
