I’ve only had this a couple hours and I’m already smitten. I didn’t think there would be such a difference between this and my old, small bamboo board, but this is really nice! It’s hard to describe; my old board had rubber pads to keep it stable, so it isn’t a difference of stability, but solidity. This son of a gun is right there.

It doesn’t have pads because it doesn’t need them. If the countertop is perfectly level (it is), and the board is perfectly level (it is), then it’s not moving. And it doesn’t.

What is this board butter you speak of?

Very nice!!!!!!!! I like that!! I don’t have a Boos board, I do have a Catskill though, and like you say, it is there! I need to find one for the lake house, something a little smaller, but a nice board than the plastic I have. I should have looked for prime deals for that

    enjoy that board!

Bkhuna yes, I've chewed on the board and didn't pick up the slightest hint of gluten

Looks good Tom. Years ago I was deciding between a Boo's board or a BoardSMITH board. Went with an end grain BoardSMITH. That was 15 years ago and the board still looks great. I'm sure you will have the same experience.

            Excellent!

I picked Boos because if I started looking too hard, I probably wouldn’t have one yet. Sometimes when I start comparing I get paralysis of choice; everything looks so good, I can’t decide. That happened with cast iron skillets for example; after futzing around for about a year I picked Stargazer because they’re headquartered about 100 miles from here.

Several times a year I clean it with lemon juice and kosher salt. Then I treat it with the Boos Board Cream and Mystery Oil.

So, even raw meat you are using wooden boards? To clean are you just using hot soapy water, rinse and air dry? A few of my older plastic boards are showing wear, makes me wonder…..

Studies show that using wood for meat is fine; the USDA recommends plastic anyways. I’ve always used the plastic board for meat because I can clean it in the dishwasher. When I’ve used the wood board for meat, I clean it with a diluted bleach solution. This board is big enough that I can actually put a small plastic board on top of it, if I want to! (Picture in my most recent SUWYC).

FireMan Good move about the plastic gutting boards. Believe it or not, nano pieces of plastics are ending up in our water, dirt, plants, food etc coming from the overall global use of plastics everywhere to simple everyday things such as dishwasher/laundry pods, polymer coated fertilizer, etc. Reportedly, these coatings/pods dissolve but don't biodegrade. Read labels to see what these pods and coatings are made from. I'll now get off my soapbox before I fall down.

Congrats on your new Boos! I'm guessing 20x18 size, weighing in at 15 lbs? Moving that around should add to your daily strength training routine nicely. Win-win.

Ha! I was just thinking that last night as I carried my setup from the kitchen to the deck. I’m thankful for the handle inserts! The flip side is that at 20”x18” I can carry everything on it in one trip.

How often do you re-oil, condition, clean your wooden cutting boards? I clean mine after each use and condition whenever I think it needs it.

I clean after every use. The instructions for the board say to oil it once a month, depending on how often you use it, but my history is to do it when it looks dry. I’ll try marking it on the calendar at the first of the month. (Which is the only time I ever look at the calendar, when I change months.)
