Rubber spatulas (and baking tools) recommendations

My wife once again surprised me out of the blue with a gift on something I mentioned months ago, and I would like to reciprocate.

She has recently mentioned that she would like to replace our rubber spatula's and I am looking for your recommendations. She also loves to bake. Mostly bread an some deserts. I wish I could give you a list of everything she has, but I am sure she doesn't have anything extravagant. Items that you find that help make baking easier that she would look at as, an unneeded expense.

And if you would, could you share with me your favorite brands for bread pans? Including the small pans she uses to make individual loafs of banana bread.

FWIW we have a bread machine and a Kitchenaid mixer with the basic attachments.

The silicone tools from Thermoworks are excellent. As far as baking pans go, you can't go wrong with anything from USA Pan.

Came here to suggest these. They are almost always on sale; if they aren’t on sale now, wait a week.

This! I’ve been slowly replacing our crap-ass spatulas with ThermoWorks silicone products. These are for the indoor cooking, when using something other than cast iron or stainless steel. The outdoor cooking implements are all stainless steel,

crap-ass spatulas ……😂 sounds like somethin’ I’d say.

Y’all beat me to it! I’m in love with the thermoworks ones. I think WI Bubba is at MTS (multiple tool syndrome). Not only are they heat resistant, but the handle is reinforced. I think they will be the last spatulas I ever buy, barring me slicing them to shreds. I also got a similar off brand set that I am just as happy with. Let me find the link…. Link found:

    and I like the colors!

      Thank you MBMorgan.

I can't tell if the Thermoworks spatula's are flexible on the working end, do you know if they are? That is a deal breaker for her.

Some are more flexible than others. Their spatulas and "spoonulas" are stiff overall but flexible at the edges. Their turners are stiff to the edge.

About the only time I reach for something metal rather than silicone is when I know I'm going to be deglazing a metal pan (not nonstick) and scraping the fond or doing pretty much anything on the grill or griddle.

Otherwise, it's silicone for everything else ... including stir-frying in the wok.

I have both a spatula and a spoonula. The spoonula works great for scraping out batter from a bowl; just turn it upside down, and it’s like wiping it clean with a squeegee!

They’re not at all rigid, but also not floppy. They’ll work eggs, and vegetables, and the like, but they won’t scrape a burger off of steel or iron.

Yes on silicone tools and no on both plastic and rubber tools for kitchen use.

We have them and use them. But I would also like to try the Thermoworks brand. They look like an excellent choice.

It appears Thermoworks is having a 20% off site wide sale that started today.

lol, there’s almost nothing there. Except it’s the only way I know how to share a vid.

Safe to say Thermoworks for the win. Tools, pads for a start. Check them out. Link supplied in a previous post.

Have a drawerful of ThermoWorks silicone tools but for flexibility we use the OXO spatulas.

The TW silicone turner is not floppy but the very end is also not rigid enough to use as a makeshift chopper either. If you are breaking up a pound of hamburger in the pan, you'll want to use something else. Over all the Spoonula is the only one of the tools that I don't rate very high. It works for stirring, but is way to small to use as a spoon so I end up using another tool that Lisa has to wash. I'm still on the hunt for a good spoon.

The spatulas are great. I use them all the time for cooking and baking. I highly recommend the set with 3 different sizes.

The spoonula, turned upside down (blade end curve 180° opposite the bowl curve) excels as a scraper. The extra pressure at the edges squeegees batter and bread dough much better than the spatula. This is true especially working with a Kitchen Aid mixer, where occasional scrape-downs are normal; I’ll take the spoonula every time over the spatula.

Mosca I haven't tried using it for that yet, but I certainly will the next time I have the stand mixer out. Thanks!

WI Bubba I mentioned this a while back, but for chopping up hamburger meat, I bought a hamburger chopper upper thingy like this……works great! I don’t know how I didn’t know about this until a year or so ago… Every kitchen needs one of these, works for busting up any ground meat.

$8.00 at Target but there’s others out there

I had the Pampered Chef version for many years and loved it. Lost it in the divorce and for some reason haven't replaced it yet. They work very well.

+1 on Thermoworks and USA Pans. A couple other tools I use often is a Kent Rollins wood spatula and a wood roux spatula.

Cajun Roux Spoon. Solid cherry wood. Hand wash. Apply mineral oil as needed. 3″ x 15″ These roux spoons are individually handcrafted in New Iberia, LA and are made from solid cherry wood. The flat top of the spoon creates ease in mixing your roux. Gift box not included.

I am going to pile on with Thermoworks for silicone tools...I have the mini spatula / spoonula combo and I use the mini spoonula almost every time I cook I keep saying I am going to get the regular sized spoonula but haven't pulled the trigger yet.

Link to the mini set: https://www.thermoworks.com/mini-spatula-set/

I also have the basting brush, ladle and spatula from Thermoworks and they get used regularly as well.
