    Thrift store score.

    I felt like a thief.

All-clad D5 4 qt sauce pan sans lid, which is ok because my All-Clad stock pot lid fits it perfectly. The pan just needs a good cleaning.

Nice score! I’ve been looking for those casually over the past couple years. I’ve gotten some nice pieces, but no AllClad other than a D3 saucepan.

      Thanks.
I got a small saucier as a try-me piece decades ago, and I didn't buy other pieces for a long time because they are so expensive. I got a few pieces last year or year before during their scratch and dent sale.

I love finds like that! Congratulations! The wife and I go “junkin” once in a while a while. We hit thrift shops, Goodwill, antique malls, and estate sales. There are some real steals out there. The first time I realized that there were things out there being sold that the seller has no idea what they have came several years ago. We walked into an antique mall just to see what was there. In a booth near the back was a pristine large Wagner CI skillet hanging on the wall with a $15 dollar price tag on it. When I took it to check out the checker said that booth was all half price that weekend. I got it for $7.50. That was my first taste of finding real deals. It’s addictive.

Carolyn That’s a funny thought, pickup in up women at the thrift store. I’v found some CI at estate sales but not often. I always end up looking in the garage for tools and what ever else was stored in there. I had a friend years ago that bought high end women’s clothing at estate sales in a large city. She made a fortune reselling it on line. She picked up some very expensive sports coats for me even an Armani for about $5 apiece.

Between TJ Max and thrift stores, some real deals. I am now overloaded. Kind of like beans and olive oil.

You should be arrested woman! 😂 What a steal! A little Bar Keepers Friend and a nylon scrubby brush should take it off with a little scrubbing. I need to start hitting up Goodwill and other places like you did but I never think about it.

I went on a whim while I was out today. Just got lucky, and I rarely find things I want that are good deals. I see tons of fine china that I have no use for and is too heavy to ship to try to resell it. I have passed on a few pieces of CI in the last year, and I kind of regret not getting those CI muffin bakers I saw one time.

That polymerized grease was stubborn. I had to layer on the BKF, put a wet paper towel on it and let it hang out for a while. The scrubby alone was barely doing anything, so I lubed the surface and used a box cutter blade on it. I had to repeat this 4 or 5 times. Each time a little bit more came off.

I have been wanting a deep skillet, so I am thrilled.

There was some dark stuff around the rivets. So, I boiled it, and found the pan wasn't a clean as I thought. There was a grease film on top of the water and some waxy grease on the bottom
I gave it another layer of BKF and made a paste around the rivets and let it sit for an hour or so. Gave it a good scrub and did another round of boiling water. Should be good to go now. 🙂

Thanks. It is pretty sweet for $10 and some elbow grease. It is nice and heavy with a big helper handle. It will get a lot of use.

We’ve talked about Dawn Powerwash (the spray) here before.

This stuff is like the spray mutated into a weapon. Use it with a scrubbie. I used it to put the shine on my last stainless steel score (high end Calphalon).

I like Dawn Powerwash. I am out of it right now.
How are you liking you Calphalon? That was a steal.

It’s really good. We all gush over cast iron and carbon steel, but there is a reason stainless perseveres; it is a great cooking surface as well. I think it expands the size of an electric stovetop; I can use the 12” stainless skillet on the 9” burner and get even heat everywhere but the very edges. Even after a long preheat, the cast iron will be hot in the middle and cooler around the outside couple inches. I can use either to my advantage, but I can do 4 smashburgers in the stainless!

My son is currently working at a Goodwill store. It was his favorite store before he got the job. He could take his kids there, buy everybody something, and generally spend no more than $10. He loves doing intake, gets first crack at the good stuff. The really good stuff gets sent to a regional center where it goes on eBay or some other auction site. I laugh when I see someone complain that a something that is brandnew, in an unopened box, is priced for close to what they would pay in any other store. Or the people who remove a tag, hoping the person on checkout will just take their offer of what they want to pay, and then get mad when the item gets taken to the back to be priced. But it's better than he was a Wal-Mart manager.

I have an auction account for Goodwill, but I haven't ever used it. I don't know if I even remember my user name at this point.

What is bad at this local Goodwill is there are cheap items with the original price tags on it, and the store prices them higher. I understand sending the really good stuff off to auction.

Carolyn I don't think the store my son works at would ever price anything higher than it would be retail. After years of being in management at places like Wal-Mart this is a breeze. They warned him about Black Friday and how busy it would be. He laughed and asked if they remembered where he used to work.

All-Clad Is first class cookware. I have a number of pieces. They are sturdy and heat very evenly. I used to think that they are indestructible but then my stepdaughter destroyed one by leaving it on high heat for who knows how long. She noticed it turning black and warping out of shape when the bedroom smoke alarm went off. I got her a new pan and a kitchen smoke alarm. So far, no more pans have been burnt up.

I expect my All-Clad collection to be passed on to my heirs where it's future life span may in danger.
