    What would you do if...

You went to clean your wok but didn't put on your glasses and failed to get a significant amount of junk out of it and then fired it up so that you could oil it and burned that junk into the bottom of the pan?

Asking for a friend, of course.

Tell your "buddy" to wok smarter.

    You know what they say:
If 4 out of 5 friends seem normal, then the problem is you.

Seriously, I would put a wire wheel in my drill and wirebrush the stuff off.

Dewesq55 - It wouldn't be difficult to re-season the wok.
What else are you going to do to remove burnt on stuff??

Because we’re friends Dave, I’m gonna help you out here. Toss that one and get a new one. I’ve done some painstaking research and found one that would be an excellent choice for you. You’re welcome.

Haha, forget about it and cook like it never happened, especially if you are still loose.

Get it really hot then add a little water to it. The steam should lift it right off.

In the old days before I built my lye vat and electrolysis vat I used a lot of easy off oven cleaner. Just spray it down good then slip it in a garbage bag for a few days. Be sure to put where kids and pets can’t get at it.

I have done this myself. I cleaned it with barkeeps friend and then fired it up with flax oil and my hood fan on max. New finish was better than ever. No big deal. . . 🔥🔥🐿️

C’mon, what is all this crappy, crap, crap about wire wheels & bar keepers friend & who know what? I really don’t know where to begin. With all the talk and work with woks it sounds like………
If you have one of Grace Young’s books follow her walk thru on cleaning or check in on Kenji’s book. It is Carbon Steel fer crepes sake. You wouldn’t do that nonsense to a skillet, or maybe some of you would. You also wouldn’t do that to a Cast Iron skillet, or maybe some of you would. This is not a years worth of rust. It is a little gunk cooked in that you failed to clean off. A little heat, maybe a plastic scraper, maybe some salt & hot water maybe more than once. Woks are very forgiving and the Tim the Toolman approach is NOT the way. Any other help just pm me.
