    Lodge carbon steel grill pan

Well, I received this from Amazon on Sunday, just in time for Father's Day!

It's the Lodge 13" x 12" carbon steel grill pan... It comes pre-seasoned, and has riveted loop handles on either side. I wanted something carbon steel without a long handle sticking out to interfere with the grill lid or other items on the grill.

I hope to break it in with some veggies today, on the kettle. I'm grilling some chicken for dinner and my folks just gave us a big bag of yellow and zucchini squash yesterday, so this will be a good way to break the pan in.

I've been eyeing that very pan!

That is a beauty. It could also do frozen French fries! 🤣

Good deal Jim! Bet you’re gonna really like it. If you have time, it wouldn’t hurt to season it again yourself before the cook. Kind of as an insurance policy.

Not sure I have time, since I am working and plan to take off about 4pm or so to grill dinner for a friend who had eye surgery a few days ago. I'll just use plenty of oil to avoid sticking this time around.

I use mine to make sprouts on the grill on the time. I cut them in half, brush them with tallow and then let them rip. So good.

You will like that pan Jim. I have the lodge carbon steel pan that HawkerXP gave me as Secret Santa. By far my favorite pan.

I am a bit disappointed that Lodge still doesn’t seem to offer anything comparable to a square DO like Camp Chef does. Square is so much better for BBQ.

The 13" Square Dutch Oven features Camp Chef''s True Seasoned Finish meaning it''s ready to cook with out of the box.

Though this carbon steel thing is probably just as good?

Nah- two different things. A Dutch oven is way different than a carbon steel grill pan with holes in it…

I think a square Dutch oven may tend to get buildup in the corners that might be hard to scrub out. I do see how there are times it would be a better shape, but on stove top, most burners are round…

Ok, put this to use tonight for a big mess of veggies on the kettle. Drizzled and tossed with avacado oil and seasoned salt, then drizzled with Bachan’s. Pan cleaned up super easy with hot water and a brush. I’m super pleased!

Hmmm, how did the roast go for the veggies? It looks a bit over loaded to get a good roast effect.

FireMan yeah is was overloaded. I asked the wife to give me some cut up veggies and she went overboard… they ended up being more stir fried than roasted.

Well….this is gonna kick up the MCS. But this is all about functionality and replacing the wire basket I’ve been using and is a pain to clean - and I don’t even clean it…i leave that up to my son

thanks for sharing the photo and the ease of use to clean it. With my son leaving for school in August, dishes will fall on me so, I might as well buy this now!!!!

I was hoping you'd get this and review it, Jim. It looks like it's exactly what you were looking for. Thanks for posting your findings.

Thanks Kathryn. I'm pleased. Although I am wondering now if I should have gone with the Lodge CI version of a grill pan, as it costs almost half what I paid to get the carbon steel version... . This one is larger at 12 x 13 inches though, and about as big as I would want to share the grill with my proteins. I will probably be using this on the Genesis as well, as it keeps things contained better than loose veggies on the Grillgrates...

Good to know, Jim. Last week I had two medium-sized holey pans going on the gasser to roast the sliced potatoes next to the BBQ chicken and running in the house to get the rest of the meal out. Talk about rubbing your stomach and patting your head at the same time!

Hadn't used those pans for years, and probably wouldn't have except for RonB 's inspiration to embrace the holey pan. (see what I did there?)

The two holey pans worked great, but I need a larger one, I think.

I’d sure have a lot more money if people would quit posting stuff like this.
