    Griddle tool set recommendation

    Hey all,

Just got the griddle top for my gasser all seasoned up and ready to go! Hoping to test it out on some Turkey Hash this weekend (turkey is on the rotisserie as I type). Anyway, I bought a griddle tool set from Blackstone, one of those with two spatulas (one solid and one slotted), a scraper, and two plastic bottles. I figured Blackstone makes pretty good griddles, so it’s likely that they have a pretty good tool set to go with their griddles. Just got it home and the spatulas all seem to bend at the angles, especially near the handle. Definitely not strong enough to smash some burgers on and enough that I’m thinking these aren’t going to hold up long term. So I’m thinking I’m going to return this set and get a different one. Does anyone have one they really like or can recommend? I’d like to keep the price reasonable (say, under $30), but can swing for quality if it makes a difference.

    Thanks!!

Yeah I bought that same set. Junk. But I just got a Pit Boss griddle with non stick top which requires nylon or silicone tools. Looking for those now….

Jfrosty27 I just bought this set of 3 from Amazon. Really like em! High heat resistant and very easy to clean, food doesn’t stick to them. I haven’t tried smash burgers with them though.

Grillin Dad for most of your griddle cooking, you WANT thin, flexible spatulas for getting up under stuff. You can buy other sets but most "griddle" spatulas are like that. I have both a Blackstone and a Camp Chef set, and what distinguished the Camp Chef set was it has one smaller spatula that is a scraper type, with sharp edges, and it is stiff. You need THAT type for scraping smash burgers off the griddle.

I use a Lodge bacon press to smash my burgers:

    https://www.amazon.com/Lodge-Rectang...-1-spons&psc=1

And I use the smaller spatula in this set for scraping Smashburgers off the griddle:

    https://www.amazon.com/Professional-...-1-spons&psc=1

Here is the full set with bottles:

Be *VERY* careful with where you put your spatulas down. I've melted the handles on most of mine by leaving them too close to the griddle top, haha...

I get the ‘flexible’ spatula, this isn’t that. It more bends at the handle, like it’s about to break off. I do like the idea of one larger and one smaller, may have to think about that

If you like it, I’m thinking I’ll go with the camp chef. Looks like Home Depot carries it and I’ve got a gift card for them I’ve got to use up

I just got these on amazon and they are fantastic. Not too heavy and the handle stays up when you set them down. They come in smaller sets too if you only want 2 spatulas.

Wow, can you grind that bevel down and give it an edge? Those look sweet

I have a couple of those, they're kinda crap. The handles aren't full tang and loosen up after even moderate use. They're not terrible, but spending a bit more money on Dexter or Winco will get you something that'll last forever.

Grillin Dad they are stainless and the square ones have a bezel. I know what mnavarre is talking about when you don't have a full tang and the handle gets loose. My PBC burger flipper had that issue on arrival and i had to return it. These are surprisingly good for the $$ although they are new. I will bump this thread if they start to loosen.

This is the last set I bought. The spatulas are good. Some of the extras I don't tend to use a lot. I can see buying a higher-end set someday.

This was my first set which I still use. I like the wood handles.

I like the longer handle on that bottom scrapper. I’d imagine that would help save some finger hairs from burning off. Too bad it’s out of stock. I think the top set is really more than I’m looking for right now

I got all my stuff off Amazon. You want two LARGE spatulas (I do not think it matters if they are slotted or not, square or rounded, or anything - just large but not pizza peel large), plastic squeeze bottles for oil and water, a good scraper (mine is reversible with a handle and another knob grip thing so you can really put pressure on it, and the two scraper blades are easily removed by loosening two wing nuts so everything can go in the dish washer), and of course at least two melting domes. You should already have a good set of grilling tongs.

An infrared thermometer is also a good thing to have, but you can get away without one. I went with the Thermoworks IR-IND which is overkill, but it has the coolness factor of reading to 1400 Fahrenheit in IR mode and can take a type-K probe. But a cheaper IR thermometer will work fine for a griddle. But again, it is not really "needed" like the other things.

This is the scraper I got. Or at least the same as the scraper I got.

If you want to save some finger hairs from burning off get one of these. I got this one at a restaurant supply store.

That bottom one would actually be awesome. No joke, in order to get my kids to like my pancakes over Denny’s pancakes (yes, Denny’s), I’ve started making Mickey Mouse pancakes (large pancake as the face and two smaller pancakes for the ears). My biggest problem is flipping the darn thing. Half the time the ‘ears’ fall off and I have to hear about how great Denny’s pancakes are (yes, this is my life). That big dog would save my Sunday mornings and let me reign as pancake king!!
