Do you know anyone who owns a mill. That would be a whole lot of work with a sander (and a respirator would be a good idea with the amount of material thrown up). Assuming there is enough material to do the cut (if the back side isn't eroded it's probably good) a mill would be much quicker. Might even be worth it to pay someone who does it as a side hustle below typical shop rates.

There would need to be considerable metal left on the bottom to work with if you decide to mill it. With the bottom thinned and the sides left stock the bottom will be very easy to warp because of uneven heating. I believe I’d give it a coat of mineral oil and season it. That makes a beautiful black finish and will make it look sharp hanging on the wall. I have a cracked one I’m about to make a kitchen clock out of.

Yeah, I’m thinking it’s just too pitted, and the bottom would get thinned out. The guy wants $75 for 5 pans, but one is a Lodge and the others are similarly nondescript. Pass.
