First cook on the Sportsman's Pro went well overall. I should have used less coals or let it cool down a bit though. I feel that I will be using this a lot in the future.

Yakitori (my first attempt). It was very good. The Tare dipping sauce needs to be a little thicker so I'll cook it down a little more.

Center was really hot at first so I started at the sides.

      Nice work on the yakitori!

That looks like a great first try. I bet it tasted marvelous. Served with rice?

The Lodge grill would get hella hot, I'm guessing, even without much charcoal.

Good call to do the cook outside on a metal surface. I still recall Lost in China 's wonderfully-written post of his trainwreck of a cook with his girlfriend. For me, it's a classic post here on The Pit. In fact, that whole topic is great.

Did we ever get his girlfriend’s reaction to this disaster?

I don't think so, STEbbq . Since she was apparently experienced in using that grill, I figure the exact same setup must have worked fine for her or her family in the past. It apparently wasn't her first rodeo.

The cart that I cooked on has a top supported by plastic so I set the grill on top of a paving stone to help with the heat.

My first grill was a Hibachi. Way back in 1977. I have a voice in my head that's telling me to buy one.

Awesome! I've always wanted one of those Lodge Sportsman grills, but with several charcoal grills in the backyard, think it would end up taking shelf space in my storage shed, next to items like the Coleman camp stove, and not be used much.

Attjack I do need to try my wok on the 65k or 102k jet burner out in the garage some time… the stove is only 10k per burner… :The 65k btu one is at counter height on the cart. The 102k jet one is a foot or so lower…

I think you may run I to 2 issues. First, my wok burner has a heat shield that protects your hand. It would be difficult to use without it. The other issue may be your ability to fine tune the output. My turkey fryer didn't have enough control to really use as a wok burner. But I would be interested to hear about how it goes for you when you give it a try.

My wok burner is 0~160k BTU/Hr of continuous heat. Another advantage may be the shape of the flame. It's concentrated while your rig may be diffuse.

I had one awhile back for the RV but it was so heavy that I sold it and got a Joe. I kind of regret getting rid of it. It was a grilling machine

I have one and do not use it anymore since I got the Weber kettle.

        Congrats on the grill

I have a kettle too but for me the compact size makes it great for skewers, I will probably use it mostly for that.

If you ever want to get a bit carried away with it I have the deep fish fryer, shallow fish fryer, and the lid-griddle that goes with the original BSR sportsman’s grill. It doesn’t look like I’m ever going to get the grill so I would part with these.

Second cook, yakitori again. I managed the heat better and also tried to make the skewers more uniform. They cooked evenly and turned out great!

The one on the bottom is green onions and skin. I ran out of chicken but had several green onion pieces, I will be making it again it was that good.

Yeah, you are definitely gonna need some practice to cook a full packer on that thing.

Great work! Sauna season is getting close, so I will be getting my Sportsman's grill out as well. I can't wait.
