I do not use it as much as I would like to. Key reason, storage. I have in a cabinet under other stuff, like a dutch oven, and other larger cookware. Tonight I pulled it out for a cook on the Spirit. I was thinking after cleaning up leaving it on the Spirit. It would be closed and for the most part covered. Moisture is not a concern, like rain. But humidity could be. Again, here in New England we get our humid days, but it's not Houston. I think I will give it a try while keeping a close eye on it. I can't tell you how many times I wanted to do a breakfast. The thought of digging it out deterred me. Any thoughts?

Our humidity can be very high at times. After I clean and dry any of my cast iron cookware I wipe a thin coat of cooking oil on it. Yes you will have to wipe it off when you are ready to use it again because what ever is settling out of the air will be stuck to it. I’ve not had anything rust so far using this method.

It will rust if it is left outside in your grill. It is humid enough in Your area to produce surface rust on cast iron. Even with the lid closed, when it rains, enough moisture will get to it.
I keep mine in my oven, on the very bottom shelf. It helps catch anything that falls, it works as a heat sink and it can take any temps you set you oven too. Plus, every time you turn that oven on, it gets a little round of seasoning!
It also makes it handy for when you need it. But it’s out of the way and outta mind for the most part.

Certainly valid points…Couple of things. 20% humidity is low, low enough to fight off the surface rust. A dedicated flat top will have to face the same issues, both of mine do. They need to be maintained outside, no way around that. It is much drier in your oven than outside. If I could get around the maintenance by storing my Blackstone and Victory in my oven, I would 😉. It’s not to say you can’t store it outside, of course you can.

I agree with Spinaker it will rust, and if oiled and covered and left for long periods, it will grow nasty things. I think it's worse in the grill covered with no circulation.
What about hanging it on a nail in the garage. Cleaned and oiled it should be ok because air will at least circulate.
