When I season I take the piece to 500 F for an hour and a half then let it cool slowly in the oven until the next day. I don’t know what 80 coats would make my electric bill look like and have no desire to find out. Three coats works fine for me. If you’re looking for a way to make a display piece season it with mineral oil. It will be beautiful to look at, just not to cook with.

- If not cooking outdoors, I am cooking on the stovetop with my 14" carbon steel wok, 12" CI skillet, or in the oven with my two Lodge CI pizza pans, or two dutch ovens. I've also got a nifty Lodge carbon steel grill pan that rocks for veggies outdoors.
Some folks are just nuts!
I think for me the best way to season it is to use it. But then, my trusty Lodge 12" definitely does not have a mirror finish like his!
The one thing I wish I had seasoned more/better is my 14" carbon steel wok, but it'll get there some day.

Gear: 26" Weber Kettle and Pit Barrel Cooker
Accessories: Spider Venom fan, and SnS Temp probes.
I enjoy cooking ribs (pork or beef), pork belly, brisket, burgers, ribeyes, chicken (usually boneless/skinless thighs), and skirt steak for carne asada.
Beverages - Alcohol isn't my jam.
Looking at the photos, I did not see much of a difference between 50 coats and 80. The eggs will slide right out either way.
