I can't vouch for this exact item, but I use chainmail to clean all of my grates. It works really well when wrapped in a scratch pad.
I am not sure how sturdy that handle looks. I think you would be better off getting the chainmail square (Like this one) and then wrapping it in a pad. Wear some gloves and go to town.
These ones already have the pad built in.

I bought one similar from a different company. I rarely use it. I can clean on top of the grate, but can’t clean down between the rungs. The one that does the best job for me is Mr. BBQ. It has a cloth pad with fine metal embedded. You soak it in ice water and when your scrub the hot gill it steam cleans. It does a great job, but eventually you will need to clean the underside of the grill with something like Dawn Powerwash.

Yep! That is why I use the mail and an sos pad. You can reach down in there. I use it all the time to clean the grates on my BGEs

Spinaker THis works well for me. See above for full comment. I can see where your approach would work well, too.

I have the grill rescue, but it is a pain to clean that. I don't want to get the dishwasher all gunky. and the replacement heads are a bit pricey. I like that chainmail dish cloth. Thanks.
