Smarter Every Day is a great You Tube channel. Must be and it seems like a grate scrubber. (Sorry I had too)

My Smarter Grill Scrubber arrived. Not cheap at $75 but it is very solid and well made. The handle is longer than on any other grill brush I have seen. That makes it easy to get good pressure on the grate when scrubbing. The chain mesh is solid. I would expect it to last a good long time.

So, does it work? Well, it works but not as good as a traditional wire brush does. And it doesn't clean between the tines on the grill as well as a wire brush. But it is not likely to shed dangerous wire bristles.

In the category of safe brushes/scrubbers, this the best I have seen. Given the sturdy construction and ease of use, the price is OK. It is built to outlast the competition by a lot.

is it hard to clean? I get buildup on my brushes much faster than they wear out, and throw them out at the point they're harder to clean than the grates.

I haven't had it long enough to need to clean it. But I have other chain mesh scrubbers, and they are fairly easy to clean. I have an outdoor sink with hot water, so I clean my scrubbers and brushes frequently. They are much easier to clean if you don't let the crud build up too much.

I use chain mail and water for all cast iron. Never thought of it for grates. I'll give it a try.

Thanks for bringing this topic forward, briano52 . I was looking for a place to spend more money after I buy the knife sharpener that Panhead John talked me into a few months back. John, I waited until we returned home from our winter hangout before I ordered the knife sharpener. I'll let you know how I like using it.

Now I'll have to look into one of those chain mail scrubbers, even though I really like my wadded aluminum foil method for cleaning hot grates. Thanks, everyone, for giving me something else to sneak into the house and look innocent about.

Good deal Kathryn! After having mine for 2 months now and using it 3 or 4 times since, I still love it. All I’m doing after the first use is honing them in the 3rd stage. Each time has brought them back to factory sharpness!

I think that this needs a "Don't spit out what you're drinking" warning / disclaimer...
