Where do you put your griddle spatula while cooking?

I had another idea. If you know someone who can weld, get a piece of pipe large enough and weld a bottom on it. That would make it more stable and windproof if you set it somewhere. This would not be necessary if ya hang it.

I like your third option which is to turn the spatula upside down and rest it on the griddle. I do this with my Cuisinart and the handle sits on a side table. My spatulas have wooden handles so melting isn’t an issue. 🔥🔥🐿️

Another thing I've wanted to do is make up some side wind deflectors to A) protect from wind and B) stop the heat from blasting out the sides and rendering some of the shelf space useless. If I put those on I could definitely use the upside down method.

This is usually what I do, works okay? Still get a bit of grease, etc on the table, bit not nearly enough as you normally would. But still enough that I want to wipe it up spring cleanup.

I have a Pitboss ceramic, so use mostly plastic or wood tools. This discussion forced me to look at it. Hinged lid, with handle which overhangs griddle when open. Looks like a couple of S hooks on the lid handle, and a loop in the tool handle, would work swell. Would drip on griddle, but up far enough from the heat.

I also have the PB ceramic. Great idea! I will give that a try.

OK. Just back from hardware store with small S hook and small solid ring. Plan to tie ring with lite cord to tool handle. And drill hole in lid handle for one end of S hook. Have to find right position so it does not fall out. Unless I can utilize the 3 cooling slots on inside each end of lid handle.

Springing right into action!!! Can't wait to see the end result.

I have a couple of old pieces of plywood about 1.5 to 2 feet square. I put them on the shelves and let them drip there like a cheap cutting board and it fills in the hole/handle associated with the silly little cutting board with which Blackstone came.

Clever. Mine doesn't have those cutouts in the shelf.

After reading this, got me thinking. I'm going to try to bring a sheet pan out with me next time I griddle. Figure the sheet pan is roughly the size of my side table, so it really doesn't take much space. I can set everything on the pan, let it get dirty, and then bring it in to clean when done. Still have to clean, but I figure cleaning the sheet pan inside is easier than cleaning the shelf outside. Plus, I'll have a tray to carry everything on when I go out.

This is what I do currently. Not a perfect solution of course.

ID:	1570998 Report, re PB ceramic. Difficult to drill hole in handle, even when center punched. Better to dismount handle, put in vise. My workaround, fished lite cord thru 2 of the slots near inside end of lid handle. Tied small ring to cord. Drilled out hole in wood spatula, inserted S hook. Perfect.

Only problem is my difficulty importing photo from android phone to MacBook to here . Have done it, but so infrequently can't recall procedure.

        Aha!

Curious, why aren’t you using the hooks on the side shelves?

During use, tool will drip on deck.

I put paper towels down in a 1/2 Al disposable pan and set it on the left shelf of the Blackstone. My spatula sits nicely in there. I throw out the paper towels and use the pan again...Works for my smash burger CI smasher too. B

I use a Blackstone silicone spatula holder that I keep a folded paper towel on. Will also use this if I am using the gas grill or one of the smokers.

I think the lesson here is that a cooker needs a side table or countertop for many reasons.
Highest priority for me is a place for my beer.🍻

I was at Walmart this morning to get some charcoal briquettes, among other things. I saw this cool, dishwasher safe mat from Blackstone. Our Walmart carries a bunch of Blackstone accessories. $15.

Nice pick up. I may have to go find one of those

Anyone use these holders? Currently I’ve been keeping tools either on the side shelves or on the granite counter top where my built-in gasser is, as they are right next to other. But these look handy for being able to get to tools and keep from making a mess.

Those look pretty good for the metal top griddles, and the price is low enough so that if they are a bust you can just shrug and say, “Oh well.” Us ceramic top guys, they might or might not work, depending on the temp along the back wall. It will probably be low enough to not melt the tool, but maybe not?

I’m truly shocked to read that everyone doesn’t just set them on the griddle top. I always set them on the outside, front corners with the handles hanging over the front edge.

If you’re running a small griddle I can see this takes up valuable real estate, but on my 36” using a few inches in the corners isn’t a big deal.

I’ve only had my griddle a few weeks, I’ve done this a few times but wasnt sure on temps yet so went away rom it. I’ll try it more now that you mention it.

I’ve also noticed my side shelves don’t get the heat like others have mentioned here, so that has allowed me to use the shelves for the food.

Did the leave on the surface while cooking today and that worked, although I didn’t do it the entire time because it’s just not something I think of. But that may be the trick with the big surface.
