Does anyone make sturdy fish baskets?

    Dear All:

My best fish grill basket was given to me by my brother-in-law at least 15 years ago. The craptastic (GrillMark) fish basket I bought at a hardware store and regretted it as soon as I tried using it. I’ve gone to Bass Pro Shops, and none of their new baskets are made out of thick wire and look as shoddy as the GrillMark. My favorite basket has a “picnic-table” or Pi-symbol on the handle. Does anyone recognize the brand? Or does anyone have a basket they would recommend?

You check out any restaurant supply frying baskets??

I'd be tempted to make something out of stainless bar thick enough to weld with a 309 electrode.

LongPig prompted by Jerod Broussard suggestion of restaurant supply…

Easily and efficiently grill vegetables, fish, and meats to perfection when using this Outset® QC71 chrome grill basket. This grill basket creates a barrier between food and the grill to prevent your food from sticking, breaking apart, or falling through the grill grates. The weaved, wire design drains excess juice, grease, or fat while allowing for the flames and smoke to infuse the food with the smoky, grill flavor that your customers crave. This grill basket is made of durable, heavy-gauge chromed steel for long-lasting use. The basket features a long rosewood handle that stays cool-to-the-touch while in use and a locking clasp that allows for safe flipping to ensure your food cooks evenly.Overall Dimensions:Length (with handle): 23 1/2"Width: 11 7/8"Height: 2 1/4"Basket Length: 11 7/8"Basket Width: 8 1/4"

Thanks SheilaAnn. Better than the average fish basket.

LongPig - I'm tried to get a grilled salmon with a sear, but I keep going back to my broiler because I get so much sticking on my grills (Grill Grates or Weber gas porcelain grates).

Assuming your cooking over flame, how much clean up when your done with your fish basket to remove stuck on flesh?

This is probably the best option. The broiler that is.

I use charcoal with my Weber, so if the fish skin cannot be poked out, I sometimes put the dirty basket over the remaining coals, and at least crisp it up and scrap off with a grill brush. The last refuge is using the next charcoal batch ignition to burn any scraps off.

I use these, two wired together, one on top and one on the bottom. Along with this I use one of those ginormous pork butt spatulas and a large set of tongs to steady it. One big plus is that when you are done with it no cleaning is necessary. Just toss it. I use to use something like the suggestions here so far. I found that they were a pain in the a$$ to clean properly. If you go with this option I would suggest two wired closures on the short sides and three on the longer sides.

I use these as well for small items like pork belly cubes. Easy on / easy off.

Sorry I missed this thread earlier but that symbol is for Outset grill ware. They sell it at Cabelas and also Amazon sells it themselves.
