    I just won $1,000 worth of Smithey Carbon Steel

    I was on a roadtrip and just got home, so I haven’t even opened it yet, I did stop and buy a 4-pack of Dragon’s Milk Stout to drink on my unboxing video. I have never had it before. I am looking forward to putting this cookware through the paces. I thought about selling the Wok and buying the deep skillet or small skillet. I have never cooked with a Wok before. Maybe I should keep it and use it. Whatcha think?

    Anyone else used Smithey carbon steel before?

      Congrats! Smithy is some great stuff. I would advise you to keep the wok: they are very versatile - you literally can get rid of almost every pan you own and pretty much do anything you want with a wok.

        I agree 100%. We've used them for years. The wok works better on a gas burner (hot) than an electric stovetop, but they still can do a great job.

      Dang!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is awesome!!!!!! I have that bottom right skillet - the farm house skillet. It is outstanding!!!!!!!!! One of these days I may get another from them. But hoooooray for you!!! Congrats!!!!!!

                        That’s quite the haul. Personally, I’d keep the wok. There’s so much you can do with it. Plus, it’s so much better for stir fry than any other pan.

                          A wok is the best deep fryer ever. The oil gets hot fast, and maintains its temp, recovering quickly when food is added. Way better than using a Dutch oven. If for nothing else, fry your chicken, pork schnitzels, fries, onion rings, etc. in that wok. I just made tonkatsu in it this past Saturday night following Kenji's video here. Perfect.

                          Once you use it as a deep fryer, you'll wonder what took you so long to do it.

                          Congrats on that marvelous win. It proves that good things come to those who drink Dragon's Milk.

                            And it will use less oil to get the job done while being safer when the food hits the oil because it allows for the expansion caused by water release to grow into the wider open upper area.

                            Nice observation, Uncle Bob . I agree completely. It's a best kept secret. For years I tried to find the perfect deep fryer, and it was sitting in my pantry all along.
