All I need to do is buy a welder, build a welding area, learn how to weld, design a stickburner, source all the metal and find a good wood source, then I’ll be ready for this thread 👍🏻
It's no different than folks using a hammerbit on a hilti to do the same. It's just science. Find the break point, here it looks like pick a ring, and go. Likely less waste using a hammer bit with a curved chisel attachment though Don't need as much force as you do knowledge for the impact point per log.
texastweeter yeah we had one at my last job, but we had huge piles of logs from annual hurricane cleanups. It's slow, but it is faster and easier than chopping a few cords yourself
You aren't using your Dewalt drill/impact set with that bit, notice the size of the drill he was using.
Thats a go big or go home project, be hard on the lower back and arms punching that all day.
Use a hatchet and 4 pound hammer to get things going. Then I grab 2 what we used to call pickle forks from my tool box. These are two pronged wedges that we used to pop ball joints apart on pickups. They have heavy handles almost a foot long that are meant to be hit with a hammer. They are heavy duty tools and can be driven very deeply into a piece of fire wood. They make splitting much easier.
Lol I have a ball joint tool too from when I was a mechanic. Great job repourposing it. Any ideas on what I can use my valve sprig compressor for these days, lol.
texastweeter Hilarious - I resemble that remark! The last time I used my valve spring compressor was the 1980s. I've moved about a dozen times and dragged that thing along "just in case".
Haha I fell for that and bought two, works really well on small stuff to make kindling.
Drive it into a decent sized solid chunk of wood and it just drills into a point where it stalls and the wood doesn't split.
Tried lots of different ways but it is just another gimmick unfortunately
Looks interesting but I am a little concerned about the torque needed. My Kindling Cracker works very well for the sizes I need for my offset. Keep us informed if you get one.
Nothing makes a fool say "hold my beer" like calling something foolproof, ComfortablyNumb . I agree, though. You would have to be trying to hurt yourself with a Kindling Cracker. And mine stays outside by the wood pile most of the year (I bring it in the garage for the winter), with almost no rust.
One benefit of the Kindling Cracker is that kids love it and it's reasonably safe. A couple I know has 3 girls with various behavior issues (sisters adopted out of horrible situation) - the adults were able to sit and relax for an hour and I have a full year's supply of kindling.

Use an axe, maul, wedge or anything else before this.
I will say, it is a great way to wear out your drill and toast your batteries. You also better make sure that wood is straight grained, and dry as all get out before trying this.

Got some splitting done this morning……the old fashioned way. Little break for the Hawks/Boilermakers game, then back at it after the game. 💪 Not a drill bit in sight! 🤓
