Before anyone gits on me about what I ordered, I do change it up and don’t always get a hot dog! I opted for the cheeseburger today. They changed the bun!!!! Yes, this is me being a drama queen and suffering my first world problem…. But what the what? It was a brioche bun! Not for a super loaded burger!! It totally fell apart. Lame @ss manager said it’s a corporate thing since they went public and have a board of directors now. I can’t even! (SheilaAnn falls dramatically onto the fainting couch, hand fan fluttering furiously).

Never been, let alone heard of Portillo's. And lived in LA all my life. Will have to try it the next time I'm down in Buena Park.
At first I thought you were talking about Porto's. But they don't do hot dogs or burgers.

Yeah Portillo’s has just gone to shit since they were bought out. I was a regular in Chicago for many years while working there. Always awesome. No more. We have a location 10 minutes from us that is terrible. Obviously we don’t go there anymore. What a shame.

Admittedly, we don’t go to Portillo’s that often but the food and service have always been good. That is strange on the bun. Although, I was more peeved the other day when they would not serve ribs via the drive through and only do them inside the restaurant.
Still, the burger itself (meat etc) is pretty good no?

I also don’t eat there that often. Not for lack of locations. We have a new Portillo’s to go in Rosemont that’s pretty close. However my go has always been their Italian beef, wet with a large fries. 🍟 If memory serves me it used to be a Kaiser roll?
I used to like brioche buns but now that everyone makes them I find the majority of then to be too dry for me.

I clicked through the link above checking out the ribs. That shiny-topped bun seen on some of the sandwiches is what I was served. My corporate brain tells me they got rid of the cornmeal dusted roll that I love because why carry two different buns? The lame @ss manager said they did not change the poppy seed hot dog bun or the Italian beef bread.

Ugh! Yep, it’s a corporate thing. The bean counters have taken over. That’s been the ruin of many fine establishments. “The hell with good food, we’re here to maximise our profits!” And that always works until it doesn’t…which is more often than not. Most corporations are a bane.

I've never ordered a burger from Portillo's but I was getting bummed thinking if they changed the burger bun did they also change the hot dog bun or the Italian beef roll? Then I got to your comment that the lame @ss manager claims they didn't change those. I guess it's time for me to go to Portillo's again to see if he's right. Then maybe stop at Porto's too since, you know, it's just around the corner.

Actually ‘Tillo’s changed their fries once. I went bat $hit crazy. As I am sure lots of people did. They were back almost immediately. Reminds me of when the chain I worked for wanted to save money and change from Heinz to some other brand of ketchup. Revolt of epic proportions!!! surfdog and TripleB it was at Islands….years ago!

Islands....Almost got a bartending gig on the West Side, back in the '80s. Took my young family to the Burbank location in the 2000's. Always enjoyed their burgers. We have the North Shore Burger restaurant up here in the foothills. Very similar theme...and good burgers.

Been a few times to Islands at the Mission Viejo mall, and a few of us regularly went to the one in Lake Forest. Good burgers - I am a Longboarder guy. I don't recall the ketchup revolt, but I would have joined in if I had noticed.
-
GolfGeezer the longboarder was their answer to in-n-out because of the “sauce”. While on the menu for about a minute or two, the Rosarito Burger was my recipe!
Now I want a rosarito burger ……
