Arrrrrgh! I caved.... got the 4 with block. 373 out of 400 in the turkey special. Better hurry before the price goes up on the next level for the same 4 with block!

Since my original comment, the project keeps expanding on what the inventors are putting into the product. As of now money has been raised for programming for cook tracking, cloud-based alerts, with customized wood on the blocks for the starter backers. The last update I saw was they got $750,000 in backing so far to give a special gift to their backers, and shooting for a million on their next backer level to cut a hole in frozen lake to jump naked into the hole!

So, either it's "you snooze, you lose," and hope we're on the winning side of the next best thing for meat temps.... or we'll take our lumps on future posters that say "you bought that?"

      I'm in, so bring it!

If these work they're ingenious. Truly one of those "Why didn't I think of that?" kind of ideas. I backed them for 4 probes and a meater block.

David Parrish I agree, thinking of doing the same. Every great invention needs investors...

Better hurry, as of now they have 368 left on the turkey level before they close out to bump it up $10 on the next level.

I predict come January-ish.... we'll have a spike in the Pit regarding comments about how the probe worked for us. Maybe more so from those us in more climate friendly weather.

The inventors did just post a message out on Kickstarter that they're fully funded. But they're encouraging backers to bring more money to develop the next level... which is to have your smartphone act as a wifi extender for the probe. That's at the $150K level, and so far they're at $125K level. Next step is the cloud level at $200K level. So you take a gamble, get the probe and have the block extender... or pay more for the entry level probe, and hope there's enough funds for either the smartphone or cloud development.

The commitment seems to be there for the probe and block. In 2 days, it's a concept that caught on quick in the BBQ community. If it works like it should, this will make the developers of BBQ Guru and Digi Q sweat bullets. All I know is I put in on American Express, so if don't work, no loss on my end.

Finally... I was tired of my probe wire wrapping around the rotisserie spit rod.

Looks like a perfect solution for the rotisserie folks.

+1 on the camera idea JohnF
Something that can see in the dark, through smoke, and won't build up crud on the lens. Shouldn't be too hard, ha.

Huskee. Sorry Steven Raichlen already has a Griil-cam on his Barbeque U show.
              From his web site
              "Grill-Cam
Our unique "grill-cam" is a television first - a camera built right into the grill to give you a sizzling, grate level view of grilling."
The guys at work had it on at break a while back and seen it, kind of a joke and not a big fan of his shows though.

Powersmoke_80 sounds like a silly novelty. I want to see the meat on a long cook. Not watch a steak sizzle. Do a time lapse of ribs and butts doing their thing.

            From their FAQs:
Like the internal temperature sensor, the components used for the ambient temperature sensor can withstand temperatures higher than what is stated [527 F] for safety reasons. One of the motivations behind MEATER was when we accidentally burned the wires of current solutions due to flare ups!
The shaft of the MEATER probe is made of stainless steel and the handle is made of ceramic that can withstand very high temperatures. We ensure high heat searing of your steaks will not be a problem.
If you're skeptical their FAQs address many concerns you'll likely have. This is very well put together.

I read through the FAQ's too. Part of what convinced me to roll the dice.

Plus, this is not their first venture together, if you scroll down to read their history together.

I was looking at getting a Mav since the my igrill range is not very good and now I decided to pull the trigger on the early Turkey.
Now the waiting game begins, that's the hardest part of doing this as I am impatient when it comes to wanting a new toy!

Powersmoke_80 4+ months is a long time, and lotsa cooking. I think a Maverick will do you well in the meantime. Then you can sell me your Mav!

Huskee, LOL thats awful thoughtful of you but Ithink I can limp along with the igrill. But you never know, you can't have too many thermometers just in case.

I think the biggest drawback of the Meater is cleaning them. They're gonna need to be spotless to look pretty and be chargeable in their block holder. Every time you use them they're going to need a full body scrub down.

True dat, Mav probes get ignored by me. They get black in a quick hurry.
Another drawback as I see it now is when doing large pieces of meat, such as a full chicken or roast, (or multiple large pieces) it may be tricky to position the probe so that it reads accurate grate/air temp. In other words, no more putting the probe straight down in to save lateral space. A slight disadvantage to having two sensors in one probe. Steaks, chops and one or two large pieces of meat this isn't an issue.

Since they can be submerged hopefully they will be easier to clean than trying not to get water in the cable

I really like the idea, but I hate the short range of bluetooth. Together with the meater block for Wifi-integration it does make lots of sense, though. I just ordered the block with 4 probes

Very cool idea. I am in. My only concern is how they are going to stack up at higher temps after repeated use. And what if it gets dropped, etc. I with Jholmgren. I like to help the guy who is putting his neck out there and trying to invent something new. Better than what a lot of kids their age are concerned with.

I just wonder if the internal will sweat and short out the board? I will just wait til it hits the market and read the reviews
