I just made the case that I need one of these as a combination Christmas/Birthday gift. We'll see what happens in 9 days.

But, what if we were to move the charcoal grate to the lower position when entertaining load up the entire grate with burgers and dogs for a 4th of July cookout? The coals are far enough away from the food grate to create a bit of a PBC -effect and the entire grate can be utilized. On top of that it comes with a 'hover grill' that was custom-designed for this rig and we are talking about a lot of built-ini potential capacity.

I have GOT to get one of these!

wbzipf : It's a good day when one gets approval from the wife for a big purchase! In answer to your question, at this point I am not entirely sure. I have only done one cook on the Weber (which I am very happy with), but have done many more on the KJ. I don't plan on getting rid of the KJ anytime soon, but after I have cooked a bit more on the Weber I'll be able to form an opinion as to which I would choose if I could have only one.

At this stage, it seems like the Weber may be a bit more versatile, but again, I just got it, so time will tell. Will keep you posted.

        Kingdarb, et al,

Well, I did it. I just pulled the trigger and ordered a Weber SCG Center. I ordered from Firecraft, where its on backorder (I guess they have been selling well). I expect to receive in a few weeks. I will keep you all posted on my experience with it once I get it.

Yeah, no special deal on the SCG center either, it cost $1999. The nice thing was the free shipping (no need to pick it up) and no sales tax.

Well, I received the note that Firecraft will receive their back orders on May 1st, so I should expect to receive it sometime that week. Boy, it will be a long two weeks.
