Perhaps the days of the KCBS floating in mediocrity (or worse) are now behind them. Emily Detwiler, formerly of Smithfield fresh pork, has just accepted the new CEO role for the oldest BBQ club in the country...and the biggest sanctioning body as it relates to contests. Over the last handful of years KCBS has trended down...both in contests and in the growth of their membership. Installing Emily shows the true desire of KCBS to once again lead from the front...will it work??? Only time will tell, but with her qualifications, there are probably few more qualified to take this bull by the briskets (both sides) and produce a winning turn in!! ENJOY!!

Thanks for the interview Greg...
I wish she would have flipped how she spent her time...
Instead of the 20 minutes of "look at me" and credentials and only 5 minutes of KCBS business...… I really wish she would have spent 5 minutes on herself and 20 minutes on KCBS....
maybe after she gets some time in she will be able to come back and better explain a vision for KCBS.

* - Favorite Beer - the cold one in my hand (craft beers of all flavors; haven't had a blue yummy in over 6 years) my tastes change with the season so it is difficult to name just a couple. However, I will occasionally have a vanilla porter float in the summer (Empyrean Vanilla Porter w/a scoop of homemade vanilla ice cream) as I usually drink stouts & porters in the colder months, pale ales & IPAs in the warmer months. I have to add Not Your Father's Root Beer to beers I use for floats.
* - Booze - I don't really have a favorite, but lean towards single malt Scotch & Irish whiskey
* - Wines - Reds: mainly the heavy stuff mixed in with the occasional pinot noir ( I have yet to meet a malbec I didn't like); Whites: German & Nebraska (hey, I have to support the home team)
* - Favorite Spice outlets - Volcanic Peppers - Bellevue, NE
* - Current butchers: Cure - Ft. Calhoun
Thank you Greg BBQCentralShow for another great interview!
I am going to be the contrarian and say I am glad she gave us her background. Before this interview I had no idea of who she was or her background. It is nice to see people give their background when coming into a high ranking position, instead of giving us a student council election speech about how they are going to perform the unobtainable. With that being said, I would like to see a follow-up interview down the road with an update on her vision of what will be accomplished going forward with improving KCBS.
Thanks again, Greg!
