    Keeping peeled Apples fresh

Gramper is on to a new lunch request.
    APPLES!
He cant't manage a whole one so we've been buying the apples in a package already sliced and packaged in a little plastic bag with about 6 slices in it.
Some days he finishes them, and some days 2 or 3 slices is all he can handle. Once those bags are opened the apples go bad ( go brown)in a few hours.
I got to doing a little research on the internet, and ran onto a solution that so far is working AWESOME.
I slice them, skin them, and add them to a mixture of.
1 TSP salt to 1 cup water. Let them soak for about 5 minutes, shake them off but don't pat them dry and into a zip lock bag with the air pushed out.
We are on day 6 of the first batch and they still look like new.
No browning, and actually seem a bit crisper than the we put them in.
You absolutely can't taste any trace of salt on them and SOOO much cheaper than buying them in those little packages.
seems like a simple fix but is working really well so far.

      Go, Grampers!

Lemon juice works, as well: 1 t. per C of water...

+1 on the lemon juice, my preferred way to store apple slices.
Gives them a bit of zip too

very interesting. Have to give it try,
we have been just putting a little lemon juice on apple slices to keep from browning.
