Got my new beds all prepped with some fresh river bottom sand to help the beds drain. Then I added about 12 inches of fresh compost from my buddies compost pile at his farm.

The Jalapeños are ready for the new bed. That is what I grow the most as I use them all the time. I started them in the green house in February. I already trimmed the first two round of flowers off the plants to encourage more plant growth before I want them to flower again and start producing. I also picked up some Red Jigsaw Peppers.....which are supposed to be the hottest current pepper in the world. (I know there are many that are claiming that. )

I already have sprouts and tomatoes in one bed. Although I am gonna pull the tomatoes and transplant them to the fence line. My guess is that the deer will be feasting on them, which is fine. I am pretty much over tomatoes in the garden. They fall over, take over and are just a PITA.

I have my local coffee sh 5-Gallon bucket of used coffee ground from my local coffee shop to work into the soil right before planting. I found out last year that this helped a lot with getting the peppers to take. It also works as a slow release nitrogen with the in the soil and improves the acidity of the soil. In August I typically move to a 1-1-3 fert made. This year is gonna be great!

For tomatoes, get ya some 6X6 concrete reinforcing wire. Then cut 5" lengths to make cages. That will solve your problem with the tomatoes falling over.

That is a good call. I also get tired of them taking over the garden. But I think on the fence line they can grown as much as they want. So I will probably try out your suggestion. Thanks! RonB

I have a container on the counter for banana peels, coffee grounds, eggshells and generally anything not meat. It fills weekly. Got a batch of Rancho Gordo Cranberry n Marcella’s sprouting. I am very excited, nearly 95 percent came alive within 48 hours.

My back prevents me from growing everything I used to grow. I'm down to corn and tomatoes. And SWMBO has planted peppers, cukes, and zukes.

        Anyway, here's this years effort.

The whole garden is inside a very tall fence to keep the deer out. With a lot of deer and squirrels, I have to fence and electrify. The white strips are to insulate the hot wires.

Very nicely done, Ron. We have a few more pepper plants to put in and then I'll share this year's sowing.

Very nice and well kept. Too bad you had to build a Stalag to keep out the deer. I gave up my large garden and moved everything into our fenced backyard because the deer ate everything. Inside our fence is where the corgis roam, and they do a great job of keeping the deer at bay.

ID:	1226620 and this is the newly added one.
Mostly sweet and hot peppers, with a couple of cukes and zucchini.

The lettuce bed will be repurposed for something else (not sure what yet) after harvest.
Hoping to try Brussels sprouts, and some other cold crops in the fall.

Nice. With the cost of groceries being where they are it's making more and more economic sense to grow your own. I know most people don't garden to save money, but I think it is becoming a factor.

No question. We have raised a larger garden than normal this year for this very reason.

I really need to do raised beds, shoulda done it before I sold my truck I guess... really want to do asparagus, cucumbers, and maybe lettuce at some point. The only thing I've had great success with is peppers and chives, everything else gets killed by bugs.

We don't do a vegetable garden anymore and we were just reminded why. Dang deer came through last night and ate every bloom on every plant Mrs. H had planted this year.
