The conviviality of the clam?

Stopped to have a glass of wine with a longtime friend. He waxed extendedly and poetically about the grilling of clams. "These are the clams I cook for me and my friends helping me." I guess he was distinguishing between "friends" and "guests."
Curious. Is there romance to a grilled clam and more importantly a best way to to grill them?

Here's Meathead's article on clams. I'm sure there's some tasty nuggets in there for you, including a white clam pizza recipe. Myself, no experience grilling them. But I love deep fried clam strips.
